New Moon in Aries: Fire in the Hole!

New Moon in Aries: Fire in the Hole!

The expression, ‘fire in the hole’ is an old mining expression that was used by miners to warn fellow miners that an explosive detonation was imminent. The April 18 New Moon at 28/25 degrees of Aries occurs at 11/57 A.M. PDT signals just such a warning. An inner explosion of energy is ready to burst forth in our lives. With five heavenly bodies in fire signs (the Sun, the Moon, Uranus, all in Aries; Saturn in Sagittarius, and Jupiter in Leo), we are ready for a fire walk aimed at purifying our lives, and burning off dysfunctional habits, patterns or behavior, and outworn beliefs and thinking.

Whatever is now purged from our system is that which makes way for us to clarify what needs to happen in order for us to be liberated from whatever may have been holding us back. Despite or as a result of, all the shedding and transforming we have been growing and going through over the past few years, we now have the opportunity of getting to the essence of what we need to move forward. It is time to act wisely, so that what’s been incubating over the past season of our lives can now emerge, be launched, or entered into.  This New Moon in Aries, coming as it does near the end of the sign, leads us into the grounding energy of the Taurus cycle. The New Moon comes in close proximity to the Solar Ingress into Taurus, and so what action is taken now is going to be put into motion and made manifest immediately in the lives we are living.

With the Pisces lunar cycle ending and the Aries lunar cycle beginning as the Taurus solar cycle begins, we get the best of both worlds―energy and concrete action, intention and desire combined with movement and creation.  It is time to commit to our personal goals and to begin taking actions to put those goals into action. We are ready for a more innovative approach to helping create the lives we seek. It’s time to take charge of the life we are living, and to hold onto the reins as the power, energy, and focus of our intentions is given a massive forward thrust.

Reins are used to guide, direct, and communicate to a horse the direction, speed, and movement we desire. As anyone who has ever ridden a horse knows, the horse is by far more powerful than the rider. To be given the gift of a good ride, the rider must honor that power, energy, and strength. The expression to ‘throw one’s heart over the mane’ refers to surrendering to that power and letting the horse take the leap over the barrier that is before it. To hold back, question, or veer off at the last minute, can be disastrous. This is a time to be brave.

Years ago during a particularly trying time, my good friend Marguerite sent me a note, the only part of which I recall simply said, “Have courage”. During  many difficult times since then, those words and her perceptive timing,  have sustained me. The New Moon in Aries at 28 degrees is in the third decan of Aries, and we receive not only the strong thrust and momentum of Aries, but also the pragmatic and sound advice of Taurus which cautions us to have courage, remember who we are, and hold onto that truth―using it as our reins at this time. This New Moon holds the potential of being a life saver.

We often come to astrology or other paths looking for the right advice, the right answers, and the words we need to help us navigate our lives. What we sometimes fail to remember is that we have within us the seeds of truth. Through discernment and reliance on the Universal Truth as we each understand and define it (through our religious, spiritual, and philosophical choices).

The lineup of planets in one sector of your chart/life (wherever you now find the transiting Sun, Moon, Uranus, Mercury Mars, and Venus) is the area of your life that is receiving the thrust of this energy. Look at your chart, or if you do not have a chart, think about what areas of your life are most in flux and transition. Wherever Aries, Taurus, and Gemini are in your chart/life, this is a major area of movement and energy. Earlier this week, Venus in Gemini opposed Saturn, the Great Teacher, in Sagittarius making us more aware of our responsibilities, and limitations. Whatever came to light, may have seemed like a heavy burden as we may have felt the stress magnified in our minds. We came in touch with our own worst enemy―that doubting, insecure, and negative voice we have within.  We have other voices too, but when we feel the pressure and when we feel insecure and vulnerable, we may only hear the negative voices speaking. As this aspect eases us with Venus moving out of opposition, we will gain greater clarity and perspective. It is important to notice how we sabotage ourselves, and to find ways to cope with these times.

On Friday, April 17, Mars in Taurus will square Jupiter in Leo, perhaps leading to some impatience. With the desire to act or move or change being grounded in Taurus (we need to feel or see the change actually happening before our eyes) and our energy and desires ties up in the fiery energy of Jupiter in Leo, we may feel thwarted , competitive, excitable, and edgy. Notice if you feel a sense of urgency, and channel your physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental energy into ways that allow for expression without overturning your entire life or taking drastic and unwise actions. Avoid the flames. Do not intentionally walk into a burning building or volatile situation. Avoid explosive relationships, and treat yourself with care, protecting yourself and holding your energy in balance.

Mercury will also be forming a quincunx with Saturn, and later  a semi-square with Chiron, the Wounded Healer. Friday can be an emotionally challenging day as well as the Moon moves through the final degrees of the lunar cycle and the Dark of the Moon. Delays, red tape, and distractions may be apparent. Slow down, be patient, and do what you can and then let it go. Do not bang your head into the proverbial brick wall. Divine timing is at work; ‘God’s time not mine’ is a good mantra during such times.

Pluto is stationary all day as it is beginning its retrograde phase (until September 25). The Great Transformer will be going back over territory that it has been uprooting. This is a time to reflect, rest, take care of whatever details have been left undone, and bide your time with Pluto’s movement. It’s also a good time to be grateful as you assess the progress you have made, for Pluto wants you to notice what has already been accomplished. As contrary as it might feel when you are feeling great pressure, upset and crisis, it is the best time to practice gratitude, forgiveness, and compassion. Give something to someone else in need, and remember all the support you have received; be grateful for family and friends who have helped you through. Pluto’s retrograde is a period of time to reassess how we are using our individual and collective power.

Friday, the Balsamic Moon, the final phase of the moon, the sleepy time, we have time to redirect our energies and interests. It’s a good time to tie up loose ends. Avoid making mountains out of mole hills. Understand that at this period of time we are often in conflict between what we think we ‘should’ do, be, have and what is actually possible.

This is a very important time for us to get enough rest, to nourish and replenish our bodies, and to get enough exercise (without overdoing or over stimulating). Our physical energy is at a low ebb during this time. If you are near a tidal area, notice the extremes of the tide, and remember the same pressure is being exerted on our bodies right now. During the Dark of the Moon, which is this Balsamic time, we may not know whether we’re coming or going. We may feel vague and unclear about our direction, decisions, or relationships. At the same time, we may feel more keenly attuned to our intuition. Our dreams may be vibrant and telling. We are best advised to listen to the inner yearnings of our psyche’s, intuition, and sense of self. Notice how your 2nd and 3rd Chakra energies are feeling. We need to take this time to retreat, reflect, and be a bit more introspective than usual.

For those born during the Balsamic cycle of the Moon, life is about beginnings and endings, and it may take some time to recognize how to navigate through the constantly changing cycles. Those too whose Ascendents are aspected by the Balsamic moon, often make great gatekeepers and guides through periods of transition. We all need those who are attuned to this energy in our lives to help us navigate the passages. Notice who the guides are in your life. They may be able to cast some light on what is needed at this time.  Basically, though, trust your instincts. Listen to what your body needs, indeed demands of you right now. Be gentle with yourself. Being strong and courageous does not mean doing everything by yourself of doing everything!. Being strong means being able to let go of the ego-driven needs we have in order to honor and take care of our spiritual gifts and calling.

Sometimes those who are strongly affected by these Balsamic, dark moon times, are ahead of their times. In the frustration of not moving fast enough, or of the world and others keeping up with their pace and growth, they can learn to find peace by helping others. When that becomes too draining, it is essential to “come into your senses”. Let your senses awaken and breathe in the natural beauty and essence of life. Take off your shoes and run barefoot in the sand or grass. Hug a tree or plant one. Walk along the river, or climb a hill. Get up atop a tall building and get some perspective. See how far you have come by looking  back over the last year or two. Notice how much has changed, and get in touch with the flow of life. You are in the perfect place. All that is meant to unfold is unfolding in Divine Right time according to the perfect plan for you.  Trust that you are making progress, and use your creativity as an outlet for unresolved or unhappy feelings. Do something that is good for you. Take a small risk and test your daring.  Avoid the big risks, and again, do not put your hand back into the flames of something you know will burn or hurt you. You  deserve to take good care of yourself now. Prepare for the gate that is opening for you with the New Moon in Aries. Put your gifts on life’s altar and honor your place in the Divine Plan.

I dedicate this column on the New Moon in Aries to my lovely Aries/Taurus daughter who celebrates her birthday on this New Moon. To her and all those friends who are mindfully and artfully navigating the new passage.

New Doors Open: Aftermath of the Solar and Lunar Eclipses

The new lunar year began with the energy of the Lunar eclipse (and the Solar eclipse two weeks earlier). Spring has begun in the North and Autumn in the South. We are midway between the extremes of winter and summer, and are here in the North, planting new seeds and turning over new ground for even more new ideas, projects, and beginnings. New paths are open before us, and for some, this prospect may be daunting. If you have been working to release the past and be open to what new developments await you, the time has come. What is before you may be so unfamiliar you barely know how to move forward. Embrace the newness with the assurance that you have what you need to meet any needs and challenges ahead. Call on the Divine, through prayer, meditation, and regular discernment, to protect, guard, and guide you on your path.

The Sun in  20/28 Aries is moving into the third decan, opening us up to the earthy Taurus energy. Venus at 28/52 Taurus and Mars at 7/22 Taurus have already brought a great deal of pragmatic, stubborn, and a very grounded view of romance and our take of interactions, relationships, and our search for beauty and inspiration in the daily flow of life. The week began with the energy of the Full Moon in the Libra and the lunar Eclipse. The waning moon has worked its way towards its present position at 2/1 of Capricorn. This weekend we will experience the third quarter square of the Moon, a time when we deal with the consequences and changes that have taken place over the last lunar cycle as well as any other long term cycles that have called for us to weed out old thought and worn out patterns of behavior and habits.

This week the Moon has moved through Scorpio, Sagittarius, and now is in the early stages of Capricorn. Notice how your emotional temperament changes during different phases of the Moon and under different signs. As you observe the regular cycles of the Moon, you will begin to notice how different phases and energies affect you. The Moon moves through the 30 degrees of each sign in about 2 1/2 days. The first 10 degrees of a sign carry the energy of the sign before it; the middle 10 degrees are fully engulfed in the energy of the sign; and the last 10 degrees begin to reflect the energy of the next sign. For example, the Moon in 2/1 of Capricorn is in the first decan of Capricorn. It carries the energy of Sagittarius. When a planet reaches 20 degrees (as the Sun is currently in Aries), it begins to attract the energy of the next sign, in this case, Taurus. Since Venus and Mercury both have orbits closest to the Sun, neither is ever more than 2 signs on either side of where the Sun is, however, each can be influenced by the energy of other signs depending how deep into a sign it is. So Venus at 28 degrees (where Venus is now), is reaching the end of her cycle in Taurus and already has taken on some of the energy of Gemini (which she will enter in two days). When any planet, the Sun, or Moon reaches 29 degrees, we say it is in its anaretic degree. This is a crucial degree in any chart, representing the culmination or a finality of some type. This is often a time when we look back, and since this month Venus’ transit through the 29th degree also occurs during the dark of the moon, it should be a time when we look back to grieve, ponder, or contemplate our decisions and choices. This is a crucial time when we may be able to finally let go or come to some kind of understanding that allows us to move forward with clarity and fortitude.

Earlier in the week some pretty heavy aspects took place. The Sun in Aries formed a conjunction with Uranus in Aries. This signaled a new cycle, an independent journey, progressive changes or reforms, and definitely, CHANGE. Something of significance has changed in our lives. Look to the houses that are affected by where the Sun and Uranus are making their transits. These areas of your life (as well as the houses in opposition, square, or trine) definitely will reflect something that has changed in your life. For example, if Aries is in the 6th house (workplace, physical body and health, daily routines) it opposes Libra in the 12th house (past, karmic ties, mystery and secrets, hidden enemies/challenges, unconscious, intuitive insight). Aries might trine Sagittarius in the 2nd house (self concept, personal worth and value, how we come to value ourselves) as well as Leo in the 10th house (life purpose, career, personal destiny).  Notice how movement in  each house might be affected by new ways of viewing, new demands or challenges, and choices you have made to move forward and grow and develop. Remember, a new path means we start as a beginner in some ways. Regardless of what we have experienced, we are newbies on this new path, and growth and development are about learning, adjusting, and oh yes, even making mistakes and learning how to recover our footing when we fall down. Be patient with yourself, and remember what it has taken to get your where you are on your path of life. One friend said to me recently, how incredible it was that we have survived some of the experiences, disappointments, and challenges we have each gone through. We have survived, and grown. That is what is ahead on this new path. Enjoy the process, and notice how your ego/intellect tries to hold on and handle everything by itself. Remember what it took to change, and avoid putting too much pressure on yourself to move too rapidly. This is not a time to push. Having just climbed a high mountain, a climber needs to take time to rest, regenerate, and recuperate from the challenges.

The Sun/Uranus conjunction however, makes us all a bit restless…like we need to plunge forward into the heat of battle, so to speak.  We feel less restricted than we have for a long time, and are anxious to make changes. We are feeling stronger, more independent, and ready to go. This conjunction however, may have brought with it some sudden, unexpected event that puts a damper of the charge forward. Take any such changes in stride. Regardless of how it may seem, whatever has come to you at this time is part of the path, and you can handle it and grow stronger as a result. You are equipped to handle what needs to be done, and you have help if you will only ask and accept it. Failure to do so, will be a result of an ego-driven need to be in control. Surely you know that is an illusion.

Mars is in 7/22 degrees of Taurus, and has recently formed a quincunx to Saturn, the Great Teacher (at 4/29 Sagittarius, retrograde). This aspect forces issues, brings things to a head, and arouses some fear and indecision. The unknown or the seemingly unbearable often makes us fearful. We are fearful for different reasons. We may be fearful because we feel vulnerable and find situations or people threatening to our safety or well being. We may feel fearful because we are afraid we are not enough. We don’t have what it takes to handle what come at us. We may feel fear because we want to maintain control, at all costs. Ironically, the cost of trying to maintain control is high. Fear may also come about when we feel our very identity is threatened. The person we have come to be and know may be changing, and this may feel very uncomfortable. Growth and development are all about growing and changing, and astrology is pointing out areas where this is more likely than not. Notice how your own fears might be making certain areas of your life feel more or less uneasy or threatening. If there truly is something that puts you in danger, you do not want to ignore it. Knowing the truth of people, situations, and yourself really can be liberating. Mars in Taurus will ground us in how our actions are connecting us to our energy, our fears and hopes, and desires. We will find greater clarity in whatever areas we are learning to take action and discover our power and abilities.

Mercury is at 21/2 degrees of Aries, and has squared Neptune in Pisces this week.  We may have felt more negative than usual, casting a jaundiced or analytical eye on situations, relationships, concerns, or crises. We may have needed to look beneath the surface of situations or relationships. We may have had the desire to uncover or unmask anything that smacked of corruption, dishonesty, or inequity. The truth has been outed in many cases as a result of Pluto’s transit through Capricorn. First we can no longer deny what needs changing in our own lives. Second, we are discovering that our own version of truth is just that—our own. We cannot discern someone else’s truth, but we must discern our own as we continue our journey of transition and transformation. Blaming the other or projecting our pain on others is no excuse for not making the necessary changes to improve our own lives. This aspect with Pluto opens us up to the pathway into the deeper recesses of our own dark places, secrets, and mysteries.

Mercury is also conjunct Neptune in Pisces (another long transformative transit). We have the ability under this transit, to grasp very complex issues and to understand deeply transformative experiences. Our powers of discernment are heightened greatly at this time, and this is a good time to go into deep contemplation, meditation, prayer, and communion with the Divine, as well as  with the world around and within you.

Another aspect you may have felt earlier in the week was that of the Sun forming a seisquiquadrant to Saturn. It may have felt as if your ego needs were thwarted on all sides. We may have seemed as if everything was at work to block our movement and happiness. The only way through this kind of period is through a practice of thankfulness and gratitude. Make list of what you have and what you are that is worthy of being grateful. Notice how impatience and anger only make matters worse. Give yourself some time to get perspective. Slow down enough to think about what was happening a year ago at this time, and how much things have changed since then. Consider and be grateful for all that you have been given, and control your need or urge to lash out or dwell on what you don’t have. Focus on all the blessings, and show gratitude. That does more to open the gates, remove the blocks, and help you meet challenges. Consider what is raising your anger level, and pay attention to how well you are taking care of yourself. Get ahold of your ego needs, by taking better care of yourself. When we have moved mountains, we need a time of rest and refreshment.

Mercury also forms a seisquiqadrant with Saturn. Saturn the Great Teacher is reminding us that red tape and having to redo something that we had already taken care of, is simply a natural part of the life cycle we are on. There are periods of delays, miscommunication, misinformation, or foul ups. Take such experiences in stride, and keep breathing. Also, tackle the necessities, and avoid moaning and groaning over having to do them. Don’t waste time bemoaning your fate at this time. Again, live in gratitude that your life is what it is. This is what you have created from your energetic desires and actions. Treat it with respect.

Mercury is also forming a conjunction with the Sun in Aries. Minds are sharp now. Clarity is strong. We have an acute awareness of what is needed or what we need to do or understand. When Mercury aligns with the Sun, our awareness is heightened and our desires are fed the fuel of imagination and deep drives.

Mercury forms a semi-square to Neptune in Pisces allowing us to daydream, muse, and spin new fantasies to fee our souls and creativity.
We need this time to allow our minds and imaginations to wander.

On April 11 Venus enters Gemini, stoking the fires of our creativity and curiosity. Our romantic and adventurous desires are activated, and we are attracted to new ideas, thoughts, and needs. We may be more interested in mental attractions. We see love as an ideal, a changing one at that, and this period has us distancing ourselves from an emotional connection to love and romance and partnership. What we seek now is variety, unique new channels of communication, and a broader, more intellectual swathe to define or envision romantic ideals and possibilities now.

Also on Saturday, April 11, the Moon in Capricorn forms its third quarter square. As this happens, we find ourselves wrapping up the plans we made at the new moon, cognizant and resigned to whatever changes or alterations life and the Divine may have spun on our own plans. We learn as the Moon transits through her cycles, that while we have a role in setting intentions and carrying our our duties and responsibilities, we are part of a greater flow of energy that has its own way of unfolding the truth for us.

With Mars in Taurus until May 11, we find ourselves more determined than ever to act according to our resolutions. We may even be quite stubborn and intractable. Patience and taking the longer view is what tempers Mars, and Mars in Taurus calls upon us to take care of what is right in front of us, of what is calling us in the moment and in the very practical and utilitarian now. Do the dishes, clean up, change the tires, or take a walk. Do what this moment invites to do or gives you as a gift.

What we can look forward to with the New Moon building up for April 18, 2015 is a more peaceful and harmonious time. The New Moon in Aries,  falls on the knot of the Constellation Alrisha, the symbol of two fish tied together. This symbol represents the uniting of wisdom and understanding, of creating and regeneration. As a result of the very tumultuous time we have recently come through, this is a time when we begin to change our perspectives, attitudes, and ways of understanding what we experience and witness.  There has been tragedy and drama over the last month or so, and we now are in the aftermath which has been described as a tsunami-like flood of ‘flaming emotions’. We may be a bit jaundiced in the way we view new experiences, questioning motivations, authenticity, and the ethics of anyone and everyone.

As long as we are aware of how this attitude may lead us to be just a bit judgmental, we also recognize that once we have been burned, we are more sensitive to the pain of flames.  It is a time to be discriminating and discerning with our choices, but the real focus ought to be on our own ideas, actions, past action and behavior, as that has what led us to make the decisions and choices that may not have been as healthy as we would have liked. Take some time to notice how you allow yourself to be taken in by your own desire to believe in someone else’s motivation and intentions, and in the process may ignore your own instincts and intuition. We need to be operating in a more balanced manner, taking into account how we are responsible for what transpires in our lives and where we need to surrender to the ego needs that are driven by fear, anger, or unhealed pain.

More on the New Moon later in the week.

Uranus-Pluto-Mars energy: great transformation and change.

The Tree House                                              Catherine Al-Meten

Theologian, Thomas Merton said of chaos, change, and challenging times, “You do not need to know precisely what is happening, or exactly where it is all going. What you need is to recognize the possibilities and challenges offered by the present moment, and to embrace them with courage, faith and hope."

This week the Moon Sagittarius squares the Sun in Pisces at 22/49 degrees, the third decan. The third decan of the Sun leans into the fire energy of Aries, and brings about a crisis of consciousness that has us feeling like we need to take action.  This emotional square occurs on Friday, March 13, and is part of the energy that is building up to the final Uranus-Pluto square that is exact on Sunday, March 15. The mutable signs of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces are affected most directly by this energy. Notice where these signs are in your own chart/life, and observe how this energy affects you in those areas.

Mercury is getting ready to change signs. Still in Aquarius for an unusualy long transit, we may have felt as if much of our emotional and spiritual energy have been caught up in trying to discover new ways and more innovative styles of working out problems, finding solutions, and discovering better ways of understanding certain areas of our lives (the areas ruled by Mercury and Aquarius in our charts/lives). As of March 12, this energy shifts into Pisces making up more focused on how we are perceiving what is in and around us and what our intuition, dreams, and visions are showing us about the truth of who we are and what we need and want.

When Mercury enters Pisces on March 12, we become much more in touch with our emotional truth and find ourselves capable of expressing our emotions and thoughts more openly and clearly. Trust intuition to guide and direct you. Pay attention to what within us longs for expression, and notice how the right words, symbols, imagery, and metaphoric expressions find their way to your tongue just as you need to be able to say the right and perfect thing. If you are not used to expressing emotional truths, you may find this signals a time when you are given the opportunity to test out a new path of expression—one that can open doors and unleash creativity and imagination. At the very least, this shift in energy will bring us out of our heads and back into our bodies as we communicate with greater passion.

Venus has been in Aries since February 20. This energy highlights the fact that we want what we want, when we want it. Patience though a virtue, has been lacking when it comes to passion, desire, and love in relationships, marriage, and our quest to bring love into all areas of life. For the next 10 days, Venus continues in this vein, and coupled with the Moon’s square to the Sun and the final Uranus in Aries-Pluto in Capricorn square on the 15th, may see crises in areas pertaining to the areas of love, relationships, beauty, justice, and the quest for harmony and balance in our lives. This is a grand finale of powerful energy, marking the time and opening the gates for transitional energy to flow through and fill up the dry channels of our lives.

As Venus in Aries (February 20-March 17) enters the third decan during this period, it is time to clear the debris and clutter out of any area of life you have been working to change, affect, or abandon, and then get out of the way. The energy is being released in a major way, and the time has come for the onslaught of a new birth. Out with the old, and in with the new. In some cultures and spiritual traditions, this month marks the beginning of a new year. In the Northern hemisphere, this is the time between winter and spring; in the Southern, the time between summer and autumn. Strong desires are being born, and needs are being expressed in very straight-forward, direct Aries like clarity. The lyrics from a song from Camelot comes to mind, and although it’s not May, the feeling of the Aries chase is alive and active at this time: “It’s May, it’s May, and life’s a holiday….it’s here, it’s here, that wretched time of year, when suddenly little wicked thoughts appear….it’s time to throw self control away. It’s here, its here that lusty time of year…”

So whether you can relate to this kind of energy or not, in some manner the sense of change, newness and a passion to enter into the quest for living life to the fullest is part of this period of time. Unrestrained, blunt, direct, honest, and all with the desire to connect and find ways to love and be loved more deeply—Venus in Aries awakens life wherever she transits in our lives.

This week Venus forms a semi-square to Pluto from March 10-11. This causes some fogginess of thinking about romance and love, and may find us caught up in nostalgia, romantic idealism, and self deception…or perhaps a play by a partner of gas lighting or planting seeds of confusion or doubt in your mind. Maintain clarity and know that you are the only one who truly knows you. Sometimes during periods like this, we get reminders of experiences from the past that were hurtful, disruptive, or confusing. The times are not the same; the reminder is simply meant to show us we have mastered our lessons and have clarity about who we are. We are less malleable now than we were in the past. We are less likely to be fooled into thinking we are the one who is confused or off base. Trust yourself, and invoke Divine Right guidance and protection in any situation or decision you make.

Venus also forms a semi-square to Chiron in Pisces, the Wounded Healer, on March 19th. This is building now, and will be a time when you will have an opportunity to learn from the past. We are not doomed to repeating mistakes nor are we destined to have to live under the obligations or commitments made when those commitments have been abandoned or broken.  See this as a time to walk over the threshold onto a new path.

Coupled with Venus in Aries is Mars in Aries, so the emphasis on passion, romance, and taking action where love, romance, and marriage are concerned, is paramount. Mars has been transiting Aries  as long as Venus has (February 19-March 31). In the home of its ruler, Aries, Mars is at home with the active, direct energy of this transit. This transit of Mars lends itself to being direct, courageous, and hopeful, and it demands action not just thoughtful consideration or reverie. Being clear about what is and what is not, pushes us each to face the truth of our experiences, and set goals for ourselves that have a promise of life-giving, affirming, and mutual experiences of love, romance, marriage, and any kind of partnership that requires commitment, passion, and stick-to-itiveness. The desire is for the long-haul and for mutual, life-giving connections and relationships. It requires jettisoning anything unnecessary, outwork, or unfulfilling in order to make room for a heart’s desire.  Ask yourself what you would want, what kind of marriage, partnership, or life commitment you would like, and imagine it in all its fullness. Allow yourself to see possibilities, and then jettison the fears, unrealistic expectations, past patterns and habits, and whatever else you need to rid yourself of, and live in the space between…allowing yourself to stand in your own truth for a while. Trust that you are meant to have the right and perfect experiences, relationships, and choices, and walk forward being open and receptive, and at home with yourself as you are.

Of course also in Aries is Uranus, bringing with it a series surprising, shocking, and unexpected events, changes, and revelations. In my own life, I have seen this play out in amazing and baffling ways. In the world at large, Uranus in Aries is setting off one fire storm after another, and bringing the necessary crises to a head in order for the great changes that need to happen to occur. Uranus in Aries has been coming into a series of 7 squares to Pluto in Capricorn, the Great Transformer over the past 2 1/2 to 3 years. The final square occurs Sunday, March 15.

The wave of movement, transitional debris, and the final sweep of changes and movement that are necessary in order for the transformation to be complete, is moving through all areas of our lives where this energy is working. How we respond to the changes and how we either move with or resist the changes, are determining the way we will understand and cope with the changes that have already happened during this period of time.
If we are still bemoaning our fate, clinging the  weight of dead or dying relationships or ideals about them, or refusing to change our patterns of behavior, thinking, or coping skills, we will struggle more than is necessary. By embracing the changes, and maintaining a life of mindfulness, appreciation, and acceptance of who we are exactly where we are, we are open to acknowledging and receiving what is right before us.

While Pisces has been swimming through the 2nd decan, ruled by Pisces, we have been going beneath the surface into the depths, absorbing ourselves in whatever it is we use to escape. It may be work, addictions, negativity, or something more positive like soul-searching or purging ourselves of remnants of the past. With this level of Solar energy at work in this area, we have been able to go deeper, discover lost or hidden secrets, or have made major breakthroughs in our soul development. If we have squandered this time in any way, we may have missed a golden opportunity to see deep into the truth of who we are and what is needed for further soul growth. Look back at dreams, insight, observations, and experiences from this period of time. Notice where you have faltered in an effort to stay safe or mask or numb some pain. Notice where you have managed to work on healing and protecting yourself from deeper damage or stopped yourself from negative habits and risk taking.  Notice how you have nurtured yourself—body, mind, and soul. Hopefully, you have identified and depended on the kindness of dear family and friends, and have taken positive steps to heal, rest, and enrich your life. This has been a postive time for redemption, healing, and soul growth.

We are about to enter the 3rd decan of Pisces, March 11-20. This decan is ruled by Mars, and is called the ‘zone of the impossible—fish that fly’ (Maria Marcario, Darkstar Astrology). Ruled by the mythical sign of Pegasus, the energy of this decan is about high-flying, far-reaching, and bursting-at-the-seams passion for bringing ideals, wishes, dreams, and visions into being. An area of the zodiac that indicates a deep, long-awaited, being who has undergone metamorphosis, is impatient to emerge from a deep, soul developing sleep. Prone to overdoing and hurting themselves due to impatience, those born in this decan are resilient and strong-willed, ready to fight another day, to return to duty, and to carry one despite all odds.

There are seven fixed stars in the constellation of Pegasus. Markab, the alpha star and wing star, influences all spiritual and mental realms. This aspect of the constellation that rules Pisces 3rd decan, has the ability to see and express the positive side of any situation. Natives of the 3rd decan are seekers of beauty, and against all odds, are destined to find it. Honor, riches, and good fortune are the blessings of this decan.

A second fixed star in Pegasus is Lacerta (Latin for ‘tears’), the reptile. The reptile which sheds its skin to grow a new skin, represents the capacity we have of experiencing trauma, suffering and grieving, and coming through the experience to regenerate and pull ourselves back together. Accident prone, they have the capacity to heal quickly and return to the adventure and quest for truth and beauty, despite any hardships or disappointments. So out of our tears, we rise to live and love again, to move forward and to enter begin anew.

A third fixed star, Azelfafagi, the tail of the swan, lending itself to a dreamy, contemplative nature, but also tending to react with spite and a sharp bite if crossed or disrespected. This aspect of Pegasus/Pisces 3rd decan nature is that of one who suffers no fools, quietly at least.

A fourth fixed star, Scheat, is the left leg of Pegasus. As I write this, I’m laid up with a wrenched left knee, and had been pondering what metaphysical message this might be. Now listen to this. As a thrid decan Pisces, this is my territory—the realm of which I am intimately familiar.  This energy is one of brilliance of mind but being so far ahead of one’s thoughts, that it is likely others think you mad. Seeing with pinpoint accuracy, and acting without restraint with knowledge of that clarity and the rightness of the action, this is an energy that is often understood as being rash or impulsive.  Not the case, when one has been incubating an idea or decision for years. Beneath the surface is where the action is taking place, deep within the consciousness and spiritual depths. What you see, is not what you get. What apears on the surface or when actions are perceived, belie the path that has been taken to reach the point of open expression. When younger, those born under this sign, were often perceived as eccentric or genius (Edgar Cayce, Albert Einstein, Michaelangelo, Jack Kerouac). If ideas are too far out or too ahead of their times, those born under this influence have problems being taken seriously or seem to pose a threat to more traditional, conventional thought and established traditions.  Some with this sign enter acting and comedy as a way to express themselves (much like the court jestor-Jerry Lewis or musicians like  Liza Minnelli, Ringo Starr, Quincy Jones).

Passing through this aspect at this time, escpecially as we cross the threshhold of the final Uranus-Pluto transformation, promises a time when we as a whole, will be influenced by foreward thinking, intuitive knowledge, and greater promise and acceptance of ideas that are not only proven by material facts and evidence. Called by some, the ‘star of our age’ Scheat, the left leg of Pegasus will reach the Aries point in 2045 in the tropical zodiac. Regardless of which system you follow, that this fixed star and constellation hang over us at this crucial time, indicates the energy that is bringing advances in technology, concern and new ways to use the electronic media and the internet, are having a profound effect on our thinking, behavior, and willingness to acknowledge the hidden dimensions of the mind, energy, and the Universal Source.

Beta Pisces, the only fixed star left in the 2nd decan of Pisces, has been revealing  the struggle between the two fish swimming in opposite directions. The creative and destructive nature of our being. The quest for truth and the desire to enter the realm of the unknown. The search for finiding unity amid diversity in all areas of our lives. These are the gifts of the second decan. For the third decan, we are becoming aware of the importance of discerning our choices by setting some boundareis. By removing boundaries in order to express beauty, we unleash a powerful force alive at this time. For this to work, we each need to know our own personal limitations, boundaries, and be capable of protecting and guarding ourselves from going too far.

On Wednesday, March 11, on the first day of the Sun’s entry into the 3rd decan of Pisces (ruled by Aries), Mars conjuncts Uranus in Aries and then squares Neptune. This could be a time when we either witness or experience some major

On Saturday, March 14, Saturn in Sagittarius, turns retrograde. This signals a time when we will be reflecting and reviewing the lessons we have learned from Saturn’s transit in this area of our lives/chart. Coming as it does just before the final Uranus-Pluto square, we can look forward to a great deal of thought and some experiences that will allow us to review what we have learned over the last few years, a period that has produced some major, life-altering changes in both persoanl and collective experience.

On Monday, March 16, at 7:53 PDT/March 17, 2:53 GMT, Uranus in Aries squares Pluto in Capricorn at 15/18, with both planets in direct motion. This has been one wild ride, and is reminiscent and built upon a similar series of squares that took place in the 1960s, resulting in decades of transition and change. Triggered at that time in Virgo, that series continues to influence our lives and society as a whole. Uranus the Great Awakener, and Pluto, the Great Transformer, are agents of change. Uranus has been bringing surprises and yanking the carpet out from under our reality. Pluto has been uprooting, overturning, and pushing out whatever needed to be transformed about our lives. Now we are in the final stages of this series of 7 squares—this great transformation, and for the rest of our lives, we will be living out of whatever has been revealed, changed, altered, and ignited within us.  Pluto the co-ruler of Scorpio ruler of the depths, and Mars the god of war and passion. With such intense movement worldwide, we are pushed to the brink of change and risks and dangers of war. What we choose to do with all this energy and change that has built up and pushed to the surface (in our private lives as well as our collective life as a planet), depends on how we channel our emotions, direct our energies, and seek Divine guidance for our decisions, choices, and actions.

This finale for Uranus and Pluto occurs with the Mars conjunction to Pluto. all at 29 degrees of Pisces.  On March 20, a total eclipse will fall at 29 degrees of Pisces with all of these planets slowed to a crawl as they ready for a retrograde. This also falls on the fixed star, Sheat which is also at the anaretic (29th degree) of Pisces. Occurring at the final degree of the final sign of the zodiac, Pisces, an old cycle ends and a new one begins. Where ideals have reached a pinnacle of development in Pisces, action and pioneering steps forward need to take place as the energy of Aries is reached by Uranus-Pluto-Mars. We have reached a crucial point in our lives here on Earth, and we must move with pure intention and clear sight and vision. We must work from a point of truth, cooperation, and mutual survival and good intention. The energy that we generate through our thoughts, actions, and choices, is vital to our individual and collective survival, health, and well being.

While we cannot always bring change and balance to what is going on in the world around us, we can begin by finding that place of peace and clarity within ourselves. Living life as if it were our one opportunity to create the perfection we are each called to express, requires that we be true to our own calling, honor the gifts the Divine has given us, and use them wisely and with wild abandon to bring beauty, harmony, and love to life within our own sphere. What we bring forth from within us, Christ says, is what saves us. What we fail to bring forth, destroys us. Choose Life.

If your life has been anything like mine the last few weeks, you are experiencing a major shift and cleansing that may have been a combination of exhilarating, perplexing, disturbing, and sweetly familiar. Such a powerful time as the final Uranus-Pluto square brings everything to a head, finds many of us longing for sweet respite and sanctuary.

To begin to make sense of what is happening as this Full Moon in Virgo reveals the truth of who we are, in all our complexities, polarities, and challenging extremes, it may be best to look at what the energies are that are building to a climax in different areas of our lives. Look at your chart, or if you are not familiar with astrological charts, think of the areas of your lives which correlate to the houses described. It won’t take a degree in metaphysics to figure out where you are experiencing the effects of this full moon in earthy Virgo.

My own natal Moon (where the Moon was at my birth) is Virgo, and it is opposed to my natal Sun, Pisces. This opposition has made my life all about bringing unity together within the polarities of life.  By now, I’m fairly good at this, however this period of time has been challenging quite simply because it is such a potent and crucial time for us as individuals and as a collective whole of humankind. We are each being asked to walk the walk of our Truth. We are each being driven from the places where we no longer belong, and are being given reprieve from what shackled us―our own beliefs, fears, perceptions, and experiences.

The Full Moon in Virgo at 14/50 degrees is in opposition to the Sun in Pisces at 14/50 degrees.  The Full Moon in Virgo reaches her peak on Thursday, March 5 at 10:05 A.M. PST.. Falling as they both do in the second decan of their respective signs, both the Moon and the Sun are doubly potent and grounded in the truth of their own nature. The Pisces Sun sits right in between   Neptune  at 7/33 degrees of Pisces in conjunction with  Chiron, the Wounded Healer at 17/7 degrees of Pisces. What has been revealed (Neptune) through dreams, intuition, visions, and sensory awareness, is now in the process of alchemizing into a healing process unlike anything we have experienced before. The effects of the toxins and dysfunctional nature of any area of our lives is making its way to the surface to be eliminated, released, and cleansed from our systems.

The Sun’s position in Pisces and its aspects to both Neptune and Chiron, make for a powerful healing experience provided we are willing to pay attention to what we have learned. When we identify in no uncertain terms, the source of pain, fear, loss, or oppression, we must then be courageous and firm in taking the steps needed to protect, heal, and nurture our highest nature. The opposition that each full moon brings, is in this case between our practical, pragmatic nature to keep our emotions in check and the very emotional and deeply spiritual need to respond from a place of deep intuitive knowing of what is of the highest nature of good for us right now.

This Full Moon in Virgo, shines its light on the Sun in Pisces, reflecting back to it, the essence of the light within its source. Virgo calls us to pay attention to the day-to-day routines and rituals of our lives, and the practical and down-to-earth essence of the lives we live. Virgo calls for order and organization. Pisces expresses  emotional truth, spiritual health and wholeness, vision,  intuition, and creative response. Pisces demands releasing restrictions, overcoming limitations, and thinking decidedly out of the box. A crisis of some type is occurring, demanding that we listen more closely to our emotional needs, and expand our vision to move in the direction that opens us in directions that lead to healthier spiritual and emotional well being. This period calls us to focus on the balance between the practical and the impractical, the rational and the emotional, the pragmatic and the creative, the structured and limited versus the open and expansive in all areas of our lives.

Also at play at this time are some major aspects and transits. Venus in Aries is trine Jupiter as I write on March 4, conjunct Uranus also, and square Pluto in Capricorn today as well. If your stomach is upset or your balance off, these aspects alone should give you a reason.  Venus, the planet that represents our ability to give and receive love, to express our spiritual, artistic, and emotional nature, and our ability to examine relationships of all kinds. Over the last few days when Venus was opposing the North Node in Libra (gateway to the future, closing doors to the past), we have been more aware of what is sustaining us and nurturing our growth, and what is not.
The trine with Jupiter has us feeling more expansive and open to what we now perceive as essential and life-affirming for us.

The conjunction with Uranus opens us to possibilities, and allows us to see into corners of our hearts and minds that have only glimpsed into new areas before. Now we have sufficiently exorcised the demons of the past to begin considering change. Uranus in Aries may bring something or someone into our lives that we have only considered a vague possibility. Sudden, shocking, and surprising events and meetings occur, and we arrive at a new portal into an unexplored future. Our need for self expression, freedom, and adventure now becomes a motivating factor in how we travel our paths.

Venus square Pluto raises the ugly head of jealousy, control, possessiveness, and the underbelly of passion. As much as we may become aware of new possibilities and relationships, this is not a great time to start something new as the unsettling elements characterized by this aspect could be a source of major problems later. It is better at this time to observe, listen, and be more mindful of what stirs, excites, and attracts. Hold yourself in check, however, and sit with the awareness long enough to let it be the essence of who you are, and not the motivating factor and anchor for a new connection. Let things develop slowly. Now is the time to gain clarity and allow the truth to seep into every atom of your own being. Let the Truth become who you are, and then when you choose anew, you do so from your own whole and intact personal essence.

The Trine between the Virgo Full Moon and Pluto in Capricorn, gives us the energy and drive to stand up to any oppression or bullying that threatens to undermine or attempt to control us. Time to stand firm against domination and control. In relationships of all kinds, bear in mind that putting on appearances and begging forgiveness do not necessarily equate to true redemption and lasting change. The nature of a bully, controller, or abuser is deep-seated, and now is the time to hold off on allowing yourself to become seduced by appearances and sweet talk. Hold yourself in abeyance, and take your time deciding what, if anything you want, need, or can bear to have with a partner, former partner, or intimate connection (this includes work but most particularly romance and marriage).

For anyone with planets, the Sun or the Moon between 14 degrees of Virgo and 14 degrees of Leo, remember that the transiting planets, the Full Moon and the Sun are acting as a kind of vacuum, cleaning out any area of our lives where we need to release in order, whether we want to or not. Prior to this, we have had choices; now we are experiencing the results of the changes that have been taking place over the last few years, and in fact over the last five decades. What was set into motion in the late-1960s is now culminating. We are being released from whatever hinders our soul growth and development. Let go, and enjoy the ride.

What has prepared us for this wild ride? In February, we experienced first the Jupiter focused Eye of God Yod on the 14th. This opened the genie’s lamp letting the truth emerge breaking down belief, dogma, and wishful thinking. Next the Pisces water stellenium of the Sun, Moon, Mars, Venus, Neptune, and Chiron all falling in Pisces on February 19,  unleashed an outpouring and upwelling of Truth that allowed us to see and feel clearly as at no other time. The result is akin to major surgery to repair and correct the health of our soul and relationship patterning and choices.  After that, the movement of Venus, then Mars into Aries, set the wheels in motion to activate long-overdue changes.

The Uranus square Pluto  waxing cycle (building up) began in 2013, and reaches its peak this month. Uranus square Pluto March 17 2015 at 15º Aries/15º Capricorn. As the final square waxes/builds to its peak, we are looking at three main issues. Uranus’ transit through Aries in your chart/life, demands freedom and using that freedom to move forward in your life. Pluto transiting through Capricorn has been uprooting and overturning whatever areas of your life need to be transformed. As part of this process, old fears, outworn patterns of behavior, rules and guidelines, structures and limitations, and whatever dogma or beliefs you have used to define and limit your growth, have been torn apart and deconstructed. Secrets come to the surface, the Truth rises up into the full light of day or night. At the final square, whatever is left that stand in the way, will be blasted apart. Problems are pushed up to the surface, so we are no longer able to deny or hide. Whatever taboos or limits we have felt constricted by, are broken once and for all.

“Radical clarity shines down on the caverns Pluto has opened” (Ruby Slipper Astrologer, Nadia Gilchrist). It is now time to face the truth, look through the garbage, and acknowledge what we are accountable for and what has been learned from the difficult and overwhelming pain of the lessons we’ve learned. Before we can move forward and grow beyond our limitations, we have to face the truth. The gifts are in the garbage, and we will rebuild, move forward, and use the lessons of the past and present to build a new future. We travel less encumbered than we have in a long time. Use this time to discern, decompress, and release whatever needs to go.

As we all by now know from the appeal of the movie Frozen, whatever has hardened and caused us to lose contact with life within us, is now ready to be opened, and the only thing we can do it “let it go”. What does that look like? What does it mean? It means being aware, facing the truth, and moving in the direction of the heart and soul. It means listening to intuition, paying attention to and working with dreams to unlock the subconscious messages, and it means following your passions and dreams; the ones you have for yourself, not the ones others have defined for you. Be your own true self, and love the one you’re with. Be grounded by the Virgo Full Moon in new ways that allow your spirit to fly free and your life to take wings. Create, cry, contemplate, begin anew, and sit in stillness and wonder at the gifts of life within. Trust that you know, and act accordingly.

Moving over the Threshold: New Moon in Aquarius, Sun, Mars, Venus enter Pisces

New Moon in Aquarius, Sun enters Pisces

Last week Mercury went direct, and today, the Sun in the last degree of Aquarius prepares to enter Pisces ushering in a new lunar year. On Wednesday, February 18 the Sun enters Pisces and the New Moon in Aquarius occurs at the very last minute of the sign, 29’ 59” (29 hours/59 minutes) on Friday, February 20th.

The last New Moon in late January,  occurred in the very first degree of Aquarius, this one occurs in the very last. Significant in that it marks this cycle marks the beginning of one phase and the start of a new, or at least the clearing out of the past so that a new phase can be initiated in the near future. This new moon finds us on the razor’s edge—looking at the old life and looking forward to the new. This new moon has us confronting the patterns, habits, and perceptions of the past as we move forward over the threshold to the future. This is the moment, quite literally, to seize the day. Move from a point of personal power and clarity. Understand and honor the truth of your own being, and do this by moving swiftly to act on your own choices, begin  in a new direction, and push through the blocks and challenges that stand in the way of your being true to yourself.

In the collective whole, society and the zeitgeist of our times, the energy of radical change is a strong influence. We see it being acted out on the world stage. Now is the time to move from a place that is rooted in moral courage, altruistic motivation, and a clear lens of perception. To counter negative influences that seek to destroy, it is necessary that good people act from a place of love in order to impede and neutralize the rash and violent extremes that threaten the good of society.  “Perfect Love casts out fear”, and acting from love rather than fear helps move us all closer to that which nourishes all of life. It is time to ‘think out of the box’ and to act on creative principles and ideas that have been bubbling beneath the surface for so long.

Doing something of a constructive, innovative, and creative nature is called for now. Even if we aren’t entirely certain of how things will work out, it is better now to do something rather than letting this moment pass with no movement or action.  Our to whatever experiences we dare to dream up and act upon, will come the soil for planting new ideas. No need to worry about making mistakes. Whatever you test or try out, will create the motivation and clarity needed for seeing what needs to be done for future success. We cannot make a mistake. What may appear as a mistake, is simply the material and experience that creates fertile ground for a new life. What is decomposing, falling apart, or coming into focus becomes the fuel for nourishing future dreams.

One of the seemingly minor aspects that affects the energy, focus, and power of this New Moon in Aquarius, is the conjunction of Ceres to Pluto in Capricorn, and their squares to the lunar North and South Nodes. Ceres and Pluto represent the nourishment and digestive and elimination processes, and the nodes represent what we brought into this life experience to work through and with, and what we are being into our lives and experiences.

The North Node  (where we are headed) is at 12’ 20” retrograde Libra and the South Node (what we have been learning) is at 12’ 20” Aries.  That South Node in Aries sits in close conjunction with Uranus in Aries, indicating that sudden and shocking activities and changes are causing major changes.  The energy of the entire aspect, however, creates a harmonious alignment and powerful energy for change and transformation of key values and areas of our lives, if we see and use the energy to affect major changes of body, mind, spirit, and ideals.

Aries, ruler of the first house, affects how we are understood and viewed in life. The first house rules not only physical appearance but also our image in the world. How we are seen and known by others. Uranus and the North Node in this area of our lives is going to have a powerful and surprising effect on how we express ourselves and are understood by others.

Libra, ruler of the seventh house rules marriage, partnerships, intimate relationships. The North Node sitting at 12 degrees in Libra signals a major change and the beginning of an entirely new phase of life. Choices we make in this area of our lives, will be done with greater clarity and vision. Avoid acting from a place of compromise if it means not being true to yourself. It is essential at this juncture, to act with great personal integrity, and in alignment with your higher purpose. With Pluto and Ceres conjunct in Capricorn, the traditional ruler of the 10th house (life purpose, career, public face, reputation, rewards and what we seek to attain.

This is also traditionally the house of the Mother. We strive to be what our mothers expect us to be. Whether we have lost our mothers or not, we are still influenced by the expectations they had for us. If we had a nourishing relationship with our mothers, we are impelled to please them and seek their approval. On the other hand, if that relationship was harmful, destructive, and unhealed, we are left with a lot of baggage to unpack.

Often the ‘expectations’ a parent had for us were more harmful than not. For instance, if we had been told or shown (actions speak louder than words) that we are not loved, respected, or accepted for who we are with all our gifts, we may seek to get their acceptance or approval by trying to live according to their values rather than our own. If we were told to ‘stand by your man’ no matter what, we may bring this warped idea into our relationships and cause ourselves to stick with unhealthy and unfulfilling marriages and partnerships, at the expense of finding our true identity, happiness, and fulfillment.  This will be noticeable in whatever area of your life Pluto has been transiting. Now however, there may be some major flashes of insight, sudden experiences or shifts of attitude and perception that will provoke or require that  you to change.

Pay attention to what your gut tells you about your life, especially those areas that have a direct impact on your personal values and health. Our digestive and elimination system (1st, 2nd, and 3rd chakras) speak to us of how we are digesting what comes into our lives. How are our needs being met? What is nourishing us? How are our relationships helping heal or hinder our health and self esteem? What does our gut tell us about what needs to change (now, not later), and what is blocking movement and growth?

The New Moon in Aquarius on Wednesday, is exact at 3:47 P.M. PST in the very last degree and minute of Aquarius. We move between two worlds in a moment, gliding into the watery, creative, imaginative world of Pisces. This is sacred, liminal time, a time of marked transitions and transformations, and shifts of energy.   The last degree of a sign, the anaretic degree, signals completion, endings, and a culmination of ideas and events in time. What we have planted, comes to bloom. What we have finished, now ends. What we have sought, arrives. And what we put into motion, now comes full circle. It’s been a time of karmic clearing for many  people. Whether you believe in the transmigration of souls or reincarnation, that which we have given out in this life alone, is full of lessons that we have set into motion at some time. Now we are receiving answers, completing projects, ending relationships, and finishing up old business in order to set forth on a new path. Listen to your inner voice, and pay attention to the sensory messages your body gives you. We store up all kinds of information in our physical being, and we are receiving information through our senses, physical and extra sensory, all the time. Notice how you are receiving information, and also pay attention to how you alter or inhibit yourself by either listening to intuition or not.

The energy of this New Moon calls us to be mindful of our whole selves. Be prepared to open the doors of perception to identify where you are growing and learning. Find ways to release what locks you into old patterns, and frees you to move more independently. Embrace the polarities in ways you act, think, choose, and create. Embrace the knowledge that the more fully realized you become, the greater your contribution to the wholeness, unity, and peace of the collective whole. Allow yourself to be a vessel for the Light of Divine Truth working in and through you. Eliminate negative patterns, thought, behavior, and connections that are deadly. Instead, move into life-affirming and life-sustaining ways of knowing, thinking, being, and loving.

And love and relationships between the masculine and feminine energies is actively moving. The New Moon is in semisextiee alignment with Mars which is in the last degree of Pisces. The last degree, the anaretic or Omega point, is a significant for a major shift and change. As Mars shifts from Aquarius to Pisces on Wednesday (at the time of the New Moon), it does so just ahead of Venus moving into Pisces the next. Both Venus and Mars are traveling in close alignment right now, and you may notice this playing out in your own life with these strong, personal energies activating some very special experiences and life-changing events. Notice where these planets are transiting in the areas of your life affected by these passages. On Saturday, February 21, both Venus and Mars form an auspicious alignment in the first few degrees of Pisces. Creative, passionate, and sensual, it unleashes our love of life. This is a time when we may launch a new stage of our lives, and we may start new relationships, head down an entirely new path, or achieve a deeper level of awareness. With the vision we have gleaned from the recent energetic movement of the Sun through Aquarius, and the depths we have plumbed with Mars and Venus’ transits through Pisces

While this energy is significant and essential for personal growth and transformation, it is also extremely important for the health, safety, growth, and development of all humankind and the Earth and her inhabitants. This New Moon activates two major squares: The Saturn-Neptune square (Saturn in Sagittarius and Neptune in Pisces) and the Uranus-Pluto square (Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn). We are experiencing both personally and collectively a spiritual crisis. The spiritual crises is erupting due to the disparity between our dreams and reality, our hopes and our fears, and our higher ideals and shadow selves. The struggle is to be resolved by bringing unify between the polarities of who we are; not in following one path at the expense of the other. We are both/and. We are not separate from our shadow (the undeveloped, unmanifestd, hidden, subconscious, mystery, secrets, and karmic ties).

The Saturn and Uranus square is manifesting as a battle between our mundane world (the daily grind, the day-to-day choices, how we make our choices on a daily basis) and that of our desire to connect to the Sacred. Coupled with the energy of the Uranus (where is change necessary) and Pluto (where is transformation taking place), this is a time when major movement, internal and external, is bursting forth in very shocking and unexpected ways. At this auspicious time, we cannot be unaware of what is churning up within us and around us. It is very apparent, and yet we still may hang on until it’s too late. Whatever is meant to end, will now end, so we can choose the path that leads us to greater harmony and balance in life. The intentions you set at this time, and the mind set and behavior patterns you use to set ideas into motion, lay the foundation for the year ahead.

In the day before the New Moon, we find ourselves still in the dark of the moon…a powerful time for letting go in preparation for the year ahead. Cleaning out the cobwebs, sorting through what can be saved and what needs to be released, is essential right now. One thing that is important to know about this new moon in the very last degree and minute of the sign of Aquarius, is that it signals a tendency to cling to the last thread of hope and to base the future on something that is already over and done. The square activates our perceptions, understandings of those perceptions, These squares also affect how we rationalize and integrate those perceptions and understandings, as we create and make choices within our lives right now. We have  the opportunity to deal with the ambiguities in our thought processes and our growth and identity, and to come out on the other end of this process more capable, willing, and aware of what our personal path is, what we are to be held accountable for, and how we are using our power, energy, and creative gifts.

One of the challenges of dealing with powerful squares and conjunctions is being thrown right into the boiling cauldron of energy that is activated right now.  There is so much going on within us and around us, and it is all activated through what is going on between us. We are a “hot mess” of dynamic, creative energy right now, and so even if we blow it, we’re getting so much to work with and use to learn, to create, to choose, and to heal. We also are being infused with knowledge and energy that we need to deal with so that we can become more awake and aware of the interactive nature of who we are as human beings.  We can sit atop the boiling pot of energy and pretend we are going to achieve balance or we can acknowledge what has been shaken up and what is changing form as it transforms with or without our permission. Now, more than ever, we become aware of how dynamic we are and how change rules that dynamism.

Take the leap of faith. Open your eyes, heart, and sensory awareness systems. Know that to love and be loved requires a balance between two individuals who are both growing, transforming, and moving in the same direction. When we try to live life through another person’s perceptions, we leave ourselves out of the dynamic that is necessary for love to exist. We can go only so deep in a relationship if one or the other partner is only partly engaged. Let yourself become fully engaged in the beauty, creativity, and passion of your own being, and then when you love, you do so in proportion and can engage more deeply. As this is a time that highlights this in all our lives, we have a great opportunity to learn more about ourselves and our ability to give and receive love. And that love is the power and the authority of the Sacred that infuses all of life, and gives us the support to choose Life.

Full Snow Moon in Leo

Full Moon at 14/48 degrees of Leo on February 3, 2015

We start the month of February off with some busy lunar activity. During the night of February 1, the Moon in Cancer quincunx the Sun in Aquarius, and later squaring Uranus in Aries. If that wasn’t enough to wake you up, later in the night nearer morning, the Moon opposed Pluto in Capricorn, reminding us of the unfinished business of transformation that has been going on in our lives. Whatever dreams, thoughts, visions, intuitive urges, sensations, or emotional upwellings you may have felt, begin to feel very emotional at this point.

The Full Moon in Leo that is building to its peak on Tuesday, February 3, 2015, is already awakening on the level of our unconscious needs and desires. As we start the week with the Moon in Cancer, we may feel a strong need to protect ourselves, those we love, as we feel our security and need for a safe, nourishing home strongly. The Full Snow Moon reaches her peak at 6:09 P.M. EST/3:09 P.M PST at 14/48 degrees in Leo. She sits on the constellation, Ursa Major (the Big Dipper). Leo’s guiding, gentle leadership qualities. This full moon is good for releasing energy, and is helped along in this respect by its aspect to Uranus in Aries. The Moon trine Uranus brings us a cosmic healing. We have the courage of our convictions now, and this may make this Full Moon a very active and crucial one for those willing to let go.

The Snow Moon in Leo opposes the Sun in Aquarius at the same degree. The polarities highlighted by this opposition focus on the pull between our personal needs and our connections with others. Leo’s Full Moon emphasizes the personal desire to shine and be affirmed and noticed. The Aquarius Sun highlights our more altruistic thoughts and ideas, and the desire to find our independence within connections with others. The Leo Full Snow Moon allows us to express ourselves more fully and dramatically in the areas relating to love, romance, and close relationships. The Aquarius Sun calls us to celebrate where we fill connected and at home within relationships.

This Full Moon is heavily influenced by its trine to Uranus in Aries. We are looking at relationships in less traditional ways, and observing that in order for us to find balance within our relationships, particularly romantic, we have to do what we can to meet our personal needs as well as the needs of the relationship and our partners alone.  We  may feel a greater need to express ourselves or communicate within a relationship in a way that is more satisfying or nourishing. If all we are doing is role playing or trying to maintain the status quo (in some cases, living as if the relationship is a stagnate, fixed condition), we may be quite aware that this is no longer satisfactory.

As this New Moon happens as the lunar new year is about ready to change (Chinese New Year begins on the New Moon), the desire is strong to move into a new type of experience and energy, especially in regards to relationships and how they are developing, or not.  What is vital is to be aware of how your entire being is showing you the areas of weakness, imbalance, and need. Only when we acknowledge that which needs to change, be mended or altered, or is no longer viable and alive can we take the necessary steps to move out of the experiences, connections, and commitments that have disintegrated or that we have grown beyond. Whether we are still trying to convince ourselves we ‘can’t afford to make changes now’, or  that we ‘can get through this if only we…”, then we are probably in for a rough ride. What has been occurring in our lives should have given us very strong indications of what we need to move forward on.

Venus in Pisces is conjunct Neptune today, February 1. Time for new beginnings in the area of romance now. Our sensibilities are open to beauty. Our hearts and minds are open to a deepening of spirituality, and the ability to trust our intuitive hunches, deepest desires, and inner vision (dreams included). Imaginations are fertile right now, and this lends itself to fueling our unmet needs with visions of what could be. If we can maintain a strong sense of what we need to develop within ourselves before moving into something that takes us on the same old journey with romance, we’re better off. Time to discover your inner resources and give yourself time to delve deeply into who you are before moving into something that simply repeats a past pattern for you.  In relationships that are healthy and growing, this may mean taking time to discover how to live with someone while maintaining your own inner and outer space. This is a dynamic in every relationship, that keeps the relationship alive. Otherwise, we slip into habits, routines, and patterns of behavior and attitude that are mind-numbing and relationship disabling.  Keeping connection alive is crucial for growth.

On February 2-3 as the Full Moon is waxing, Venus is in parallel aspect to Neptune. Our sensitivity to beauty, romance, and love remains heightened, and we feel very sensual. This is a time for romance and flights of imagination and fancy. We envision and take steps to bring into our experience, the magical energy of love, compassion, and creativity. Later in the week, on February 7-8, Venus is sextile Pluto in Capricorn. This aspect helps transform and activate the powerful urges of love, romance, and sexuality. Particularly in areas that are most affected by Pluto’s long transit through Capricorn, we experience strong attractions and we gain greater understanding of relationships, primarily on a subconscious level (dreams, inner vision, meditation, prayer, and all forms of intuitive knowledge).

On February 8-9, Venus is conjunct Chiron, the Wounded Healer. This is a powerful aspect for healing and gaining clarity and insight into areas where we have been in conflict, been wounded, or are in danger in relationships.  Repair what is fixable. Resolve to make changes if it’s time. Focus on healing what needs to be attended to in order to live more authentically and wholly.

On Monday morning, the Sun in Aquarius moves into sextile with Uranus in Aries. Adjustments will become more obvious and new ideas and opportunities will arise. Look for creative solutions to problems that arise or that have been creating tension or imbalance.  News, sudden changes, or new information will help shed light on what is missing or needed.

Tuesday’s Full Moon in Leo shines on the areas of our lives that are coming to wholeness. What is growing and coming into its fullness in your life? How are your plans shaping up, and what have you already accomplished? Time to take stock and celebrate the acheivements now. Full moon time is a time to celebrate, express gratitude, and share time and energy with those you love.

Another beautiful aspect is the Full Moon’s conjunction with Jupiter. This spectacular transit brings deep desire, heartfelt connections, and profound joy and love. If open and receptive, this will at the very least give you clear vision as to what love looks like in your life and in you. If the timing is right, this could also be the start of an entirely new direction in love and relationship. Are you ready to do what it takes to receive your good?

Wednesday, Mars forms a quincunx with Jupiter. Mars, the planet of action and getting things done in an edgy aspect with Jupiter, indicates a tendency to over do. Jupiter is abundance, and “too much” is also a quality of Jupiter. We overlook our weaknesses and overestimate our strength, stamina, capacity, and energy levels. Sometimes we fail to see what stage of life we are in, and how needs change at different times. Cycles lead from one level of understanding to the next, unless we get caught in loops that keep us from seeing what needs repair and healing or prevents us from growing in areas we need to grow. The goal in life is not just to do more and  better. Life is about developing and learning new ways of being, doing, perceiving, and deepening. If we only grow in areas where we are already proficient, we are not growing. What may be manifesting now are examples of where we miscalculate our capacities or where we are in off base about what we really need.

Early Thursday morning, Mercury in Pisces forms a sextile to Saturn in Sagittarius. Great ideas flow now. Communication is enhanced, and Saturn provides the energy and direction to put thought into action, word into deed, and get the ball rolling in areas that are of great importance now. Write letters, make plans, set goals, sketch out initial outlines, or simply move into a project that is ready to flow. At almost the same time as this sextile, we have Mercury forming a semi-square to Mars. This may make for some debate or conflict of some kind over work. While we are motivated, we may also feel the stress and pressure to get things done that aren’t quite ready to go. Blending the two different energies is advisable so as to not waste ideas, energy, and time. Move more slowly, take your time, get enough rest, and take time to listen. Avoid jumping to conclusions or forcing the issue with anyone.

On Friday, the Sun opposes Jupiter. This may bring us into the kind of conflict the full moon’s opposition to the Aquarius Sun forced us to confront.  This aspect will focus our attention on wherever we are not in balance. We will also be aware of wherever we are out of alignment with  our authentic selves and those we are in relationship with. We will be forced to cope with areas of our lives that we have tried to avoid or disregard.

Sometimes we think we can just let something go and it will work itself out. And sometimes that is the case. At other times, for anything to change significantly, we have to make choices and act on decisions, even if we are not sure. We need to act even though it makes us uncomfortable.  If we do not make necessary alterations in how we do things, we drive ourselves in loops and tie our lives in knots.  The knots  that tie up our energy in life are what we are in the process of undoing so that we can use our life force and energy in ways that are freeing, life affirming, and healthy.

This is one of those times when we stand with the capacity to move, the insight about what needs to change, and we need to make up our minds. Which road ahead? We may not be prepared to travel, but sometimes the train arrives and we have to get on without knowing beforehand how the trip will turn out.  Trust the process. You’ve made it this far. Use the lessons and insight that have helped you thus far, and allow yourself a new start.
