Mercury Retrograde in Cancer: Take a Break

From End of the Line: Past Perfect                                                   Catherine Al-Meten
Mercury Retrograde Phases

Even for those who know nothing about astrology or the planets, most  have heard about Mercury going retrograde. Without understanding what that means, we nevertheless allow ourselves to enter into a mentality of fear, and we all know what that leads to. Fear-based belief and thinking, leads to fear-based decision making and choices.  Knowledge is power, and in the case of Mercury retrograde, the more you know, the more likely you are to discover that retrograde phases have gotten a bad rap.

Mercury, like other planets in our Solar System, sometimes appear to be moving backward. This year Mercury goes retrograde three times: February 23-March 17, June 26-July 20, and finally, October 21-November 10.  Mercury is the archetype for communications of all types, travel, literature, poetry, merchants and thieves. Romans gave the name Mercury to the Greek god, Hermes. Many cultures have archetypal symbols that represent the trickster. Mercury is the trickster, representing the ‘everything that can go wrong, will go wrong, or maybe not?’ mentality.

While Mercury is in its retrograde phase, has to do with your communication. At our best, communication can be a tricky issue as we are all viewing the world from our own perspectives. During the retrograde phase, we may want to take the time to slow down, rethink what and how we are communicating, and to pay closer attention to the details, the completion of projects, and the clearing out of whatever is blocking energy or trapping you in  worn out habits, patterns of thought and behavior, or working its way out of your experience.  With Mercury in retrograde in Cancer, Saturn in Scorpio, Neptune and Chiron in Pisces, and the Sun and Venus in Cancer, our unconscious and intuitive nature is activated. Spending some of this retrograde phase intent on truth seeking of the deepest kind.

Mercury retrograde times may be times when we discover we need to slow down a bit more, take more time to catch up with yourself, and give yourself a break from the rapid pace of life.  Release your attachment to having to have things run smoothly all the time, and allow yourself to be more accepting and at peace with disturbances, delays, or disruptions that take place in life.  Not one of us gets through life without something not going the way we thought is would or should.  Fretting, stewing, berating ourselves or others, or giving up are not healthy options. Mercury retrograde time gives us a nudge to take some time out of any routines, habits, or patterns that are causing us to be more crisis-oriented, anxious and upset, or living in our expectations instead of living mindfully with what is.

Another aspect you might want to consider is Mercury’s shadow period.  The shadow period for this retrograde phase began on June 3, when Mercury first passed over the degree where it turned retrograde today. The shadow period ends when Mercury reaches the same point on August 3.  The period when Mercury is moving very slowly is called the storm period, and is not the same as the shadow period.  Shadow elements are the undeveloped, unresolved, and more materially-based forms of communication in our lives.  Ruling all kinds of communication related to daily life contracts, communications, negotiations, agreements, mail, day-to-day operations, there seems to be a sense of feeling muddled or confused during this period.  Life feels more sluggish and decisions made during this time tend to be more challenging than at other times. On the more up side, this is a great time for reflection, recharging your batteries, taking your time and reviewing plans, projects, and again, the way you are communicating. One of my clients recently mentioned becoming more aware of her negative thought patterns. She had just made a major life/career transition, and had assumed that the critical thinking patterns served her well in her old job, were now still affecting her, but not in a positive or healthy manner. Sometimes when we have more time, or take more time (by intentionally slowing down), we discover that what we thought were problems related to our environment, schedule, job, or responsibilities, are really more deep-seated issues within us. These issues may reflect the shadow elements of our nature which need to be attended to if we are to grow more into a greater sense of our self, our wholeness, and our happiness.

Some advise against starting anything new during a retrograde session, but avoid living from a fear-based belief. If you have already prepared and set off on a journey, a project, or a new path, this is probably a great time to engage actively and thoughtfully in whatever it is that is before you.   Take a lesson from Shakespeare’s character, Hamlet: “Why then 'tis none to you; for there is nothing either good or
bad, but thinking makes it so. To me it is a prison.”  The part that’s usually left out when someone pulls out this quote, is the last line, “to me it is a prison.”  We can make our own prisons, hell on earth, crisis, or failure from whatever is going on in our lives. We can also make a gift from the garbage, discover heaven on earth. Communication with ourselves during this Mercury retrograde phase, is crucial for rooting out those patterns of thought, belief, habit, and perspective that color the lens through which we view our lives, through which we live our lives.  Taking the attitude during this retrograde phase, that allowing ourselves to discover the truth of our being and then doing what we can to become clearer, more kind and compassionate (to ourselves and others), and more aware of who we are and how we communicate with others.

During this period when several planets are transiting Cancer, it is an excellent time to become more mindful of how we are nurturing and nourishing ourselves, body, mind, spirit, and emotions. Tuning into, accepting and expressing, and feeling more at home with our emotional natures right now, can be healthy for ourselves and for all those with whom we relate.  Excellent health and self care begin inside ourselves and within our own lives.  This is an excellent time to make yourself more comfortable and at home wherever you are. Avoid rushing into projects, relationships, conditions, or choices before thinking them over and giving yourself time to see them develop slowly. If it is something meant to be, it will be meant to be a month or two from now. Avoid pressuring yourself or others to be, feel, accept, or make decisions until the time is right.  Putting too much pressure on situation at this time can bring you  a result you might be sorry about later.  Allow Divine timing to operate, and practice mindful presence to bring yourself to a place of deeper peace.

Later in the week, I will be writing an article on Jupiter’s transit through Cancer. Notice if you can sense, feel, or see any changes in your awareness, perspectives, or the flow of your life over the next few days. Just observe and notice what is or is not flowing, what is or is not coming to fruition, or what is or is not arising from your unconsciousness. Allow yourself to feel the waters of the cosmos wash over and through you, cleansing and clearing away the debris from your body, mind, heart, soul, and emotions.  Notice your dreams and the energy shifts in and around you.  Have a great week. Take a break. Sit back and observe more. Take a walk, and slow down that pace. Be at peace.

Solstice and Full Moon in Capricorn: Four Days of Lighting the Way

This week the season of light peaks on Thursday, June 20 at 10:04 P.M. PDT as we observe the Summer Solstice when the Sun moves from the sign of Gemini to that of Cancer. Then a few days later, on Sunday, June 22/23, 2013 the Full Moon peaks at her closest distance to Earth until late next year. Friday through Sunday, worldwide, people will be celebrating “World Peace, Prayer, Harmony and Honoring Sacred Sites Day.” A sacred time for us all to honor within ourselves, our families and communities, and throughout the world, with one another, the ongoing commitment to living in peace and harmony. It is time to set aside whatever divides us, and seek ways through prayer, meditation, ritual, and action to honor all life on Earth. During the upcoming days of Light, reflect on and pray for those who are homeless, refugees who are in flight, and anyone who is trapped in circumstances that are not life and light-giving.

Full Strawberry Moon peaks on June 23, 2013 at 11:32 AM UT/4:32 PM PDT on June 22, 2013. This is the closest and largest Full Moon of 2013, the Mother of all Supermoons this year. Astronomers refer to this kind of supermoon as a perigee full moon. The full moon and the perigee occur within one hour of one another, and for the night before and the night after, the Full Moon is likely to appear large and close. The term supermoon is not a term used by astronomers but was coined by astrologer, Richard Nolle.  “In 1979, Nolle defined it as:
…a new or full moon which occurs with the moon at or near (within 90% of) its closest approach to Earth in a given orbit (perigee).” The Full Strawberry Moon is also called the Full Rose Moon and the Hot Moon. The Full Moon peaks at 2 degrees Capricorn in opposition to the Sun at 2 degrees Cancer.

According to Joseph Campbell, signs and symbols are ways to help us discover meaning in seemingly random situations and occurences. When we begin to see how we are connected to the stories of all humankind, we learn the power of our story. What we create to explain our lives, the language and expressions we use, and the way we choose to find meaning or not, helps shape not only our own lives, but also the lives of others. We are powerful in our own right, and we are therefore responsible for using our power and finding meaning in what we do, say, and are.

"I'm calling a symbol a sign that points past itself to a ground of meaning and being that is one with the consciousness of the beholder. What you're learning in myth is about yourself as part of the being of the world. If it talks not about you, finally, but about something out there, then it's short. There’s that wonderful phrase I got from Karlfried Graf Durkheim, 'transparent to the transcendent.' If a deity is occlusive of transcendency and cuts you short of it by stopping at himself, he turns you into a worshipper and a devoteĆ© and he hasn't opened the mystery of your own being."

On Wednesday, June 19 the Sun and Jupiter were conjunct making for fertile ground for planting new ideas, starting new projects, creating and growing ideas already under consideration, and setting the ground for new relationships and their future. Not only do we feel more self-assured, but also we have the energy and resources available.  We may find ourselves more grounded and energized in a way that fills us with serenity and a sense of peace that we have not felt in some time.  Jupiter and the Sun in the late degrees of Gemini, enable us to feel the full expression of polarities leveling out and creating a deeper sense of balance within us and in the way we are living.  If we are still fighting the changes or if we insist on ignoring how we are being called to release and let go of what no longer serves us or is working and growing, we may be unable to experience the blessings that are ours at this point.  Whatever has been calling to be let go, now is the time to surrender to the Divine plan and stop trying to force issues.
Venus seisquiquadrate Neptune on June 19, may have had us seeing what we wanted to see rather than the reality of what is.  Neptune may affect not only our dreams but also our perspective especially of our feelings for people we are around. It might be wise to be more aware of your views on love and compassion, especially in relationships that are key in our lives right now.  This may also be a good time to pay attention to ideas, patterns, archetypes, or other signs or symbolic ways our attitudes about love may be affecting the way we view the world, treat others, and  form our own identities, and express ourselves in relationship.

Mars, the planet of action squared Chiron, the Wounded Healer late June 19, bringing things into sudden focus or raising an issue that can trigger what is needed to open us to healing what has been disturbing or causing us pain for a long time. Squares create tension, and when Mars is involved, it may come in a harsh word, a sudden realization, or an act that serves to be the proverbial ‘straw that breaks the camel’s back’. Whatever or however Mars stirs things up for you, notice how disturbing thoughts, dreams, acts, conditions, or realizations seem to contain the key to healing for you.

Mercury conjuncts Venus on Thursday evening, in the energy and light of the Summer Solstice (Northern Hemisphere)/Winter Solstice (Southern Hemisphere). Messages, communication, and expressions of love come to us in all types of forms, and we are compelled to express our feelings of love, compassion, and tenderness. Dreams may be revealing or may shed new light on an area of life regarding communication and love, that has remained a mystery to you.

Venus remains in Cancer until June 27, so expressions of love tend to be filtered through our need to care for, tend to, shelter, protect, and express ourselves tenderly and lovingly. It is a period of time when we can benefit from nurturing a deeper sense of security and serenity within ourselves. We feel a deep sense of devotion to those  we love, and we expect to be treated with respect, trust, and mutual expression of caring and concern. If we find ourselves in relationships that aren’t nurturing our souls or meeting our needs, we may question whether we are living in illusion, projecting what we’d like on others, or actually experiencing an open, direct, and authentic expression of love from those we love. We may feel that our ability to enter into relationships is in jeopardy right now, or at the very least, we may feel threatened if relationships are not feeling safe and secure.  Our needs right now tend to be for connection, protection, mutual devotion, and a sense of feeling at home in another’s presence as we also feel more at home with ourselves. If you are not currently in a relationship, or are estranged from one you love, this is definitely a time to identify within yourself that which gives you life, makes you feel comfortable in your own skin, and what you require to feel safe, grounded, and at home on the planet.

From June 16-June 22, there are numerous aspects and transits that help us focus our attention on just what it is we need to feel safe, secure, and at home with ourselves. Venus has been parallel the Sun, Jupiter, and Mars, and has been conjunct Mercury. And the aspect of Venus to Neptune earlier in the week, may have cast a shadow over what we need and desire and what we have. Contrasts, as Gemini reveals, are part of everything we do and everything we are. We do not eliminate polarities in our lives; we integrate and acknowledge both ends of the spectrum, and all the areas in between the extremes...in every area of our lives, in every aspect of our being. We are not meant to eliminate anything but rather are called to embrace and accept the potential gifts amid the challenges, obstacles, unhealed elements, or undeveloped aspects of ourselves.

On June 20, the Moon is in Scorpio all day.  Somewhere in the middle of the night, the Moon formed a trine with Neptune, and this could have triggered some insightful dreams. The Moon trines Chiron, Mercury, Venus on Thursday, as we move closer to  the Solstice threshold. The Sun is at 28/50 Gemini, Mercury is at 21/29 degrees of Cancer, Venus is at 20/38 Cancer, Mars is at 13/48 Gemini, Jupiter is at 28/36 Gemini, Saturn is at 5/5 Scorpio, Uranus is at 12/13 Aries, Chrion is at 13/50 degrees of Pisces, Neptune is at 5/20 (retrograde) Pisces, Pluto is at 10/35 Capricorn, and the North Node is at 16/8 degrees Scorpio.

As I write this column, the North Node (gateway between the past and the future) is turning retrograde. This allows us time to reconsider, revisit, and amend any plans, decision, or choices we have made.  Anything that needs repair, attention, or editing will come under close scrutiny during this retrograde phase. Any time a planet, the Sun, the Moon or an angle of the chart/life is in the retrograde phase, it means it’s time to catch what we might have missed, communicate or consider any choices or changes we are making. In the case of the North Node, it refers to major changes in our own being that is ready to manifest or go through major transformation.  Notice where the North Node is in your chart.

Currently, the transiting North Node is in Scorpio, but your Natal North Node will be where it was at the time of your birth. This represents the way and place in your life where major changes usually occur and helps us understand the nature of change in our lives. The transiting North Node is located wherever Scorpio is in your life/chart, and that is currently where you are feeling the inner urges and upwelling of shadow issues and intuitive awareness in your life.  Scorpio, well-aspected by all the major planets in water signs, is acting on the unconscious to such a degree in all of us, that we are more and more aware and feeling more and more awakened to our inner truth and the call of our souls.  In the early morning hours (4:31 AM EDT/1:31 AM PDT) of June 21, the Moon enters Sagittarius, where it will help usher in the Summer Solstice in the Northern latitudes/the Winter Solstice in the Southern.

The Sun in Cancer highlights our need and desire to build a safe nest and create a warm and comfortable environment to brood on our ideas, creative projects, and feel more connected to our home. Now is the time we find ourselves being more protective of our homes and sense of identity, of our privacy and those we love. Our homes become the center of our experience of coming to a place of inner peace. We want to safeguard our creativity as well as our sense of home and family. Cancer is especially enlivened by the Moon’s movement, so during the Sun’s transit of Cancer, the Moon’s aspects will have a profound effect on our emotional expression. Be particularly alert and sensitive to shifts in mood. Use your spiritual practices (prayer, meditation), physical activities (yoga, walking, swimming, hiking, all forms of exercise), mental pursuits (reading, writing, creating, researching, studying), and daily activities (decluttering, organizing, cleaning, doing chores) to channel your energy and quiet and calm your emotions.

As the Full Moon at 2 degrees of Capricorn reaches her peak late Saturday or early Sunday morning, depending where you live. The Sun forms a Kite pattern.  As in all full moons, this Full Moon in Capricorn is opposite the Sun in Cancer at 2 degrees. The Moon is also opposite Jupiter in Gemini, forming the tail of the kite. The Full Moon is in a wide angle conjunction with Pluto, the Great Transformer, releasing the energy of powerful forces within us that seek to express from a place of deep, emotional need and urgency, that which has been building and transforming within us over the last two years. The Full Moon trines Saturn, the Great Teacher, in Scorpio and Neptune, the Keeper of Dreams and Illusions, in Pisces. The Grand Trine in water signs is tightening up, and as we observe, the shadow side of this type of energy can be destructive and harmful. It is incumbent upon each of us to acknowledge the strength and power of our own energy, desires, intentions, and actions, and to stand with those who are vulnerable and unprotected. Making our voices heard and hearing what is being expressed by those in our care or those we work and live near, is very important right now, especially.  Lunar energy has a powerful impact on most of us. The Moon’s effect on the tides show us the strength with which a single satellite of the Earth can move us. The energy within each of us, also powerful, has the power to move, affect, and influence much more than just ourselves. Watch what your thoughts, ideas, feelings, and moods release in the form of energy throughout this period of time, and take some time to become more intentional and focused with how your express yourself.

The Divine Feminine is rising as potential and the  unmanifested expression of Life that is being born now. Whenever an expression of God’s light appears in a new form, there is likely to be conflict or disagreement, and likely attempts made to suppress the light.  This Light cannot be extinguished, for it is borne within us and expressed through all we do, all we understand, and all we seek to be and express. Knowledge is power, and once the  power of knowledge has been released from the genie’s lamp, it cannot be contained any longer.  All great cultures have stories of the discovery of light, and in each story, the light is released into the world almost by accident. In reality, the Light is, has, and always will exist, and as the days reach their peak of light in the North and the lowest point in the South, we are reminded once again, of the capacity we have to use the time, resources, talents, gifts, and energy we have to create something beautiful, love with all our hearts, and be the shining light in our own lives that sets an example for those who look to us for guidance, protection, love, acceptance, and understanding.

The Moon opposite Jupiter whets our appetites, and increases our desires and our need to express our desires. And the stellium in water signs activated by the Full Moon in Capricorn, awakens and removes the veils that block intuitive knowledge and insight. Intuition and dreams are heightened, our ability to relate our dreams, intuitions, and emotional insight with those areas of intuitive learning (Saturn in Scorpio) and the Moon’s placement in Capricorn (the Great Transformer), will make it easier for us to related to how our dreams, insights, intuition, and life experiences are all connecting us to the changes and transformative movement happening within and around us.

Create a ritual including prayer, meditation, and celebration to honor the changing of the seasons, the turning of the tides, and the fullness of the Moon’s light in your life. Slow down and take some time to rest, pay attention to the gifts in and around you, and accept the peace that is growing within you. Practice gratitude for what is, and acknowledge and honor those who support, love, and affirm you.  Share your joy while allowing yourself to maintain a place of peace where you are comfortable with yourself regardless of who you are with, where you are, or what the circumstances of life seem to be. Experience the peace and joy of the gift of life that is yours now, in this moment. Know your prayers are answered, and you are loved.  Be in peace in the Light of Divine Love.

Gemini New Moon and Grand Trine in Water Light up June skies

Get a copy of Catherine Al-Meten's book, Elements of Tarot: A Guide for a Spiritual Journey.

New Moons usher in a new beginning each month, and June’s New Moon in Gemini, peaks on Saturday, June 8 at 11:56 EDT/8:56 PDT. The Taurus New Moon cycle comes to a close, and the Gemini New Moon cycle begins, the focus turning towards improving all forms of communication.  As the Throat Chakra/5th Chakra is all about communication, so too is this new lunar cycle. Communication is about both giving voice to our ideas, feelings, and heart’s desires as well as discerning communication coming our way from others, from the world in and around us, and through the expression of how we are received, understood, and connected. The Gemini New Moon asks that we listen with greater attention and care, and become more tolerant and accepting of the differences between ourselves and others.

As we have been moving more and more into new patterns of reflection, connection, and communication, we are developing ways to deepen and expand the ways we communicate. We are learning to listen to our own intuitive knowledge, experiencing greater awareness, attuning to substantive differences within ourselves and within all types of relationships.  As we learn more about how we take in and process information to form our ideas, ideals, and perspectives, we also learn what we can do to be true to ourselves while letting go of our need to control or even understand others.  For some of us, finding the ‘answers’ is such a strong part of our identity, that we transfer this need into places within relationships where it ends us serving as a self-imposed obstacle or block to our own growth and/or to our understanding of others and the situations we face.

The Gemini lunar cycle opens up energy that allows us to maintain more benevolent attitudes, greater acceptance of ourselves and others, including the differences, and improves our chances for making significant and lasting changes in our attitudes and behavior. The Gemini New Moon peaks at 18/01, affecting those with planets and solar and lunar aspects between 14-22 degrees of the mutable signs of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces most directly, but also affecting those areas of the lives/charts of all of us.  Look for where the mutable signs are in your life, and you will probably notice where this affects your life most directly.

The Sun continues on its journey through Gemini, keeping the focus on knowledge and diversity. We remain “on” and curious about the world within and around us, and it may be best to see this as a gathering time rather than a time to push to put things into form. We are awakening on many levels (Saturn’s journey through Scorpio wakens us to the unconscious; Neptune’s through Pisces to the spiritual, emotional, and mysterious, and Jupiter’s just entering Cancer, to ways to feel more secure, at home with ourselves, and more nurtured and nurturing).

Mercury’s entry into Cancer on May 31 moves us deeper into seeking qualitative changes in the way we communicate, the way we process and discern what is happening in our lives, and in our entire process of communication.  We are less reactive now and more reflective and observant.  We process information, sensations, and what is lobbed our way, in a much more quiet, calm, and discerning manner. We feel more deeply, respond more slowly and deliberately, and feel more protective of ourselves and our loved ones now. We are more aware of how we are affected by and affecting those with whom we communicate on a regular basis.   We feel a greater depth of feelings, emotions, and sensations. We are tuned into many levels of meaning, sensation, and vibrations. We are highly attuned to how others affect us, and how we are perceived by others.  We are more vulnerable than normal; also more open and receptive.

Venus too is in Cancer from June 2-27, strengthening the effect of Cancer on this new moon cycle.  In Cancer, Venus nurtures, protects, and guards our emotional fires and sensitivities.  We experience the highs and lows, the fullness our our ability to love and be loved.  In whatever area Venus transits in our chart/life, we experience greater tenderness, romance, and attachment.  We become more devoted, dedicated, warm, and loving. It becomes easier to express our emotions, to be in touch with those emotions, and to express greater affection.   We are very much aware of when and with whom we feel safe and secure, and where and with whom we do not.

Mars remains in Gemini from May 31-July 13, increasing flexibility and versatility.  It may be more difficult to focus and get things accomplished during this cycle.  Hopefully, you can use this time to relax, break your routine somewhat, and explore areas that don’t demand too much of your attention. It’s a good time to break the routine, take a break or vacation, or change the pace and focus  while Saturn is in Scorpio, a part of the Golden Triangle (Jupiter in Cancer, Neptune in Pisces, along with Chiron). This casts a magical glow over whatever this trine shines its light upon.

Uranus continues her transit through Aries, a long journey that stirs things up in our lives. We grow impatient with restrictions, conditions, and attitudes that make us feel trapped or ineffective in any way. We long to break out of old habits, patterns, and relationships (personal and professional) that no longer enliven and
nourish us.  Whatever is dead, falls away now, and we find we no longer care or long for what could not sustain life in the passages of the last year and a half. Remember we are in the Year of the Snake, and what we felt compelled to change last year, is manifesting this year, and the old skin is falling away.  We no longer mourn or suffer with our decisions, but rather we embrace the new. Shifts that have taken place often feel quite unfamiliar, and make us wonder whether or not we really know what is going on. Trust yourself, and trust the Divine to lead you in the right and perfect paths.

On Thursday, June 6, and Friday, June 7, Venus trines Saturn and Neptune, forming a Grand Trine in Water signs, the Golden Triangle. If you are fortunate enough to have a clear night sky, you can see the Golden Triangle. This benevolent aspect allows us to see ourselves as we are, in relationship and in our own solitude.  We are more realistic because we see the dynamics that are operating from within ourselves and within our partners, spouse, and lovers. We accept what is. Whatever we put our focus, energy, love, devotion, and commitment to at this time, will benefit, grow, and develop more deeply over time.  This is the time to solidify commitments and identify the love that is operating within us. This is a very romantic time, a time when we experience deep pleasure and when we see and experience the best in others.

On June 7, Venus trines Saturn, and that aspect provides stability and constancy of feelings. We may express our feelings in a more reserved manner, but we mean what we say, and act accordingly now. We experience our relationships more pragmatically now.
Venus forms a parallel to Mercury June 9-10, signaling positive and respectful forms of pleasure.

On June 11, Venus opposes Pluto stirring up strong feelings and emotions, maybe some stress and strain. Be aware of maintaining your own boundaries, even in the closest relationships. Avoid al forms of abuse and manipulation. On June 12, Venus forms a square aspect with Uranus, bringing up issues over our sense of autonomy and intimacy. Strange situations or experiences may arise, testing us or raising issues that make us feel more vulnerable and hurt than normal. Maintain some distance, and remain centered and calm, avoiding direct contact or confrontation in any situation that you find threatening on any level.

Mars forms a challenging square to Neptune, one of the three planets in the Grand Trine/Golden Triangle.  This may feel like some element of resistance or hesitation, or mixups in communications, plans, or details. This aspect lends an element of fogginess, confusion, and some disruptions in signals.
The Sun in Gemini squared Chiron (the Wounded Healer) on Tuesday, June 6, bringing the opportunity and information needed to make some necessary changes. What may hold us back is our fear to change, be different, or move out of our comfortable ruts of illusion, thought, habits and patterns of behavior. We have reached a point in our development where we need to be able to trust ourselves to take risks, make mistakes, and adapt to changes that are needed in order for us to grow, develop, and create.

On Friday, June 7, Venus will trine Neptune. We awaken to beauty, intuition, dreams, and imagination.  Look for signs, symbols, and messages that arrive in all areas of your life, reminding you that we find meaning only when we look to see the connections between where we’ve been and where we’re going. Meaning is found when try to fit the pieces of our life puzzle together, to view each experience as a lesson we are here to learn, teach, or observe. While visiting my granddaughter’s martial arts class, Hapkido, I watched as at the end of a very active, vigorous class, the instructor asked the children sit calmly, shut their eyes, and silently count to 10. At the same time, I did the same thing. It’s amazing how long 10 seconds is when you are trying to be still, calm, quiet, and centered.  Reminding me how important it is for us to seek a deeper sense of stillness within all areas of our lives.  Anywhere we are, (with the exception of operating a vehicle or machine of some type) we can afford a few seconds to sit still, close our eyes, and count to 10 quietly.

The Golden Triangle alignment provides an extended period of time when we can sink more deeply into that quiet center of our being. Find ways to slow down, go deeper, and notice what you may have overlooked, missed, or forgotten. Let what needs to come to the surface of your awareness, rise up, and allow what needs to move out do so. Visualize negativity disintegrating and dissipating out from you, turning into released energy, no longer affecting or disturbing you or anyone around you. Whatever you think you have to do, can wait. Whatever you find yourself frustrated over, is probably not going to be helped in anyway by your worry or irritation. Use quiet, calm, and silence to bring peace within and to express without.

Venus trines Saturn later this week, bringing greater stability in our love relationships and in our ability to love and be loved. We may receive guidance from a wise elder, and we are surely more open to deepening relationships or renewing friendships from
Setting a New Course                                                                                                                  Catherine Al-Meten
the past.
When Mercury opposes Pluto in Capricorn late in the day on Friday, we may feel somewhat compulsive, competitive, or obsessive. Avoid  acting on the feeling to talk nonsense, push your own agenda, persuade others you’re right, or shine the light on your version of the Truth.  It’s neither necessary nor energetically helpful.  Let things rest, and trust that people get what they get when the time is right. It’s not your job to fix anyone else. You can engage in deep levels of conversation provided you are respectful of opposing viewpoints. You may even be able to perceive greater depths, broader visions, or solutions to perplexing problems during this transit, provided you don’t insist on sticking to one-way thinking.

When Mars squares Neptune Friday night, you may be inspired in quite an unusual way. Something out of the ordinary is likely to occur to point you in a new direction or to answer a long-standing puzzle in your life. Be cautious in interpreting whatever messages you receive intuitively or otherwise at this time. Set whatever comes aside so that time and distance can provide you with greater discernment.  Answers are not meant to be instantaneous, but instead will build up over time to awaken, connect, and prepare you for the changes, transitions, and alterations that are forming now.

As the New Moon forms on Saturday, June 8, Mercury squares Uranus, bringing flashes of brilliance, sparks of light/understanding, and visions and intuitive insight that may or may not be received with ease.  Allow yourself to be guided and moved by a calmness, stillness, and quietness within, trusting that whatever ideas you set into motion with intention and openness, are likely to be rewarding for you in the future.

Shifting energies: Mars, Venus, Mercury signal changes

Shifting energies:

On the 20th of May, the Sun entered Gemini
Mercury enters Cancer, May 31, just past midnight at 12:07 AM PDT
Mars entered Gemini, the same day, at 3:39 AM PDT
On June 2, Venus goes into Cancer at 7:13 PM PDT

Earlier in the week, on Sunday May 26, Mercury formed a difficult aspect to Saturn resulting in having to redo something we thought we had completed. The energetic expression of the seisquiquadrate, affected communications, causing delays, a heightened sense of vulnerability, and conflicts and confusion that needed to be sorted out. At the same time, the Sun squared Neptune accentuating the artistic and creative rather than the analytical and logical focus that might have been needed.  Allowing time and space in our lives to release from rigid patterns of thought and behavior, often accompanies this type of alignment.  Mars semi-square Uranus may have resulted in a sense of restlessness, anxiousness, or uncertainty. Uranus and Mars bring about sudden changes and shifts that can disrupt the patterns we have become accustomed to, or remove obstacles that block our paths before we have a clear sense of where we are headed.  We may find ourselves questioning our goals, rearranging out plans, or reconsidering the way we go about directing our lives.

Venus and the Sun both make hard aspects with Saturn this week, causing us to feel isolated, distanced, and disconnected. We may feel aloof or cut off from those we love or that which we normally find depth and connection.  Often these aspects signal the final stages of breakdowns, breakups, or disintegration of whatever is falling away from us. We become crystal clear about what and who we are committed to. In response to loss or disconnection, we may appear aloof and standoffish, and indeed, this may be how we feel. As Saturn in plumbing the depths of Scorpio, much if not most of our angst occurs on the deeper levels of our consciousness and unconsciousness. We sense the discomfort or numbness, and seek greater clarity within for what we are meant to do, be, or change in ourselves and our lives.

Earlier this week a number of the inner planets formed conjunctions with Jupiter. Mercury conjunct Jupiter on May 31 gave us a glimpse of broader vision for the future. Something of a release could be felt, and travel, starting new adventures and projects, and looking forward were caused by a shift in energy brought on with Jupiter’s optimism and Mercury’s energy and movement.

Venus conjunct Jupiter also created a shift of energy that allowed us to release what no longer served, and embrace the space between, allowing for making room for whatever is needed. An almost magical sense that life is a treasure to be experienced and shared, creates shifts in our attitudes, our actions, and our abilities to give and receive love. Drawing necessary limits and boundaries is difficult under such aspects, and discerning between what is helpful and loving as opposed to what is enabling and dysfunctional may prove to be difficult...especially if we have not fully recovered or restored a sense of safety and fulfillment within ourselves. Jumping from the proverbial frying pan into the fire is a danger when we have not healed ourselves.

The Sun forms a quincunx with Pluto in Capricorn calling for adjustments in our lives in order for growth, movement, and transition forward.  We need to be aware that it is important to Reconcile our psychological urges, needs, and patterns with the reality of all areas of our lives, in order to make healthy, substantially significant changes and experience real growth in our lives.

The Sun sextiles Uranus in Aries, signaling that we need to adapt to new circumstances, ideas, and new situations.  We can no longer go on as if we were oblivious to the truth of our lives.  To blame our unhappiness, discomfort, or lack of satisfaction on anyone else  is to fail to see how we have brought ourselves into this present moment. Our choices have created the patterns of our lives, and the way we handle ourselves and try to handle others.  When we fail to see how important it is to be submissive to the Divine will that directs us and others, we miss the opportunities to learn and recognize the lessons in the challenges, obstacles, and troubles we face.  Moving beyond perceived blocks and around corners into the light is what the Sun’s sextile to Uranus is shining its light upon.  We can see solutions, and act upon them, by moving forward on our own volition, and trusting what we are capable of doing, being, and having. If we are not healed within ourselves, we act from our woundedness. Whatever needs to be healed has become apparent.  Spend time on reflection and getting to the heart of the matter within before trying to find a way to connect while you are still healing. Often we look to others to fill a space left by a loss.  The loss provides both space and time for reflection, discernment, insight, and healing.  We are each enough just as we are where we are.  Knowing that takes a bit of solitude and distance. Take the time to heal and then you will know what gifts there are in the garbage.

The Golden Triangle. As planets begin moving into Cancer, a very special time begins when the planetary alignment called the Golden Triangle, casts a spell over the houses ruled by water signs.  Mercury entered Cancer on May 31, where we seek deeper, safer, and more quality in all forms of communication. Our senses, intuitive, and thoughts are awakened and enlivened when Mercury transits Cancer.  We also begin to focus more of our attention, time and energy in on how our ideals, values, and visions affect us personally, and how our relationships in all areas are affected. Mercury in Cancer awakens us on emotional, spiritual, and sensual levels, as we seek to create safer, more nourishing relationships and alliances. On June 2, Venus enters Cancer. Venus usually spends about one month in each sign. The house ruled by Cancer and your own Venus placement have much to do with how Venus in Cancer will affect your chart/life. Venus rules beauty and our need to create beauty within our lives and through whatever we do (work, relationships, art). Depending upon the house ruled by Cancer, this area of your life may call for some upgrades or improvements. Venus entered Cancer (my 9th house), and I hopped on a plane to travel and explore.  Notice where your life is in need of a boost, fix-me-up, or redo. Venus also has to do with bonding, unifying, connecting, and improving the quality of our lives and relationships. Venus in Cancer is about family love, the lasting type of love that requires connection to nourish and foster growth and love. When Venus is in Cancer, we often get second chances or new opportunities to make necessary changes, repair broken ties, or improve all levels of love relationships.

Venus moves into a trine with Neptune in Pisces on June 6, and we see relationships as destined.  A romantic, magical aura is cast on all areas of life and relationships ruled by the water signs, Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces.  With Saturn in Scorpio, we have been sensing a change, and awakening to whatever is rising up to be experienced, and now is the time that experiences manifest.  Whatever has been building up, is ready to come into being, shining like a full moon on the water.  We act from a center of love, compassion, and greater understanding than we have recently, as our own hearts are more open and welcoming.  We see the best in others, and relax our expectations to be truly present and connected to what is in ourselves and in those we love.

Venus exact trine to Saturn on June 7 provide stability and grounding making it easier to express our feelings in  a more realistic and mature way. We are more self-contained, thus surer of ourselves, and therefore able to be ourselves while allowing or accepting others as they are. We have released ourselves from expectations that have burdened and shaded our perceptions. We see things as they are. Any relationship begun or renewed under the aspect of the Golden Triangle, have the capacity to be more grounded because of the deep-seated inner truth that seems more apparent to us. We know from within, the truth of who we are, what we feel, and how we are moving in our relationships to others, to our art and work. We therefore, act with greater pragmatism than we have for quite some time.  We are better able to build strong partnerships for we are no longer seeking our fulfillment at our own or someone else’s expense.  We become more accountable and responsible for ourselves as we have clearer vision.

Next week on the New Moon, I will talk more about the Golden Triangle, and its longterm impact.  For now, notice the shifting of energy, take some positive actions, and use your spiritual practices to ground yourself in the life you have. Find ways to express your gratitude, and explore the treasures around you. Be open to what is before you, and what is rising up from within.  Be blessed and receive your good.

Full Moon Rising: Sun enters Gemini, Lunar Eclipse, Uranus/Saturn conjunction, oh my!

Full Moon on the Rise                                                                                                                Catherine Al-Meten
Full Moon, Lunar Eclipse Saturday, May 25, 2013 12:25 AM EDT; May 24, 9:25 PM PDT.

We are entering a very active week, with the Uranus/Pluto square, the movement of the Sun into Gemini, the waxing Full Moon and the final lunar eclipse in this cycle.

The Moon’s Movement.
The Moon is moving through the sector of your chart/life that is ruled by Virgo, Libra, and Scorpio setting off emotional responses and reactions to the last three solar cycles of Pisces, Aries, and Taurus.  These last three solar/lunar cycles have been particularly potent and upsetting as each has been filled with an abundance of planets, the Sun, and the Moon lining up in the stellia groupings; first in water signs, then in fire, and this month in earth. And all were in opposition, at one point or another, with Saturn, the North Node, and in square aspect to Pluto. Jupiter has also been the wild card, toying with our expectations, aspirations, illusions, and mental health in some ways.  Jupiter is the promise of abundance, good fortune, and hopeful optimism, however when aspected in certain ways, finds our dreams and visions falling apart or at the least, undergoing a reality check that changes our perspective, reality, and plans....often in a big way.

Over the weekend of May 18-19, the First Quarter square of the Moon and Sun emphasized the issues and areas of life that have been most affected by the series of eclipses we are currently experiencing. On Sunday, the Moon in Virgo grounds us in practical matters. We have the capacity and the mood is set for solving problems, fixing what needs to be fixed, getting organized, and supporting others in whatever way we can.  We both seek and offer assistance while focusing on cleaning up our own messes and evaluating the choices we have been making.

The Moon in Virgo makes it easier for us to see any incongruence in our lives. We are better able to reconcile the conflicts in who we think we are and what our actions and behavior actually say about who we are.  This is the time to face any disparity between the two, and start facing what our actions are sowing in our lives and the lives of others.  Take care of business, and reevaluate current plans rather than setting out on new adventures. Before we can move into new areas, we have to have taken care of business right where we are.  If we fail to do so, we seed any new projects with unfinished business.  That means we carry the unfinished part into any new relationship, project, or direction that we set off in.
Growth comes through being able to get to the heart of current relationships, experiences, projects, and issues.  Grow where you are planted, and deepen the roots that have been set. Allow what has been seeded to come to full bloom and allow the fruits to ripen for harvest.

Moon in Virgo makes a number of aspects to the transiting planets. The Moon opposes Jupiter, activating an emotional response to plans, hopes, and dreams. There is a strong desire to solve problems, discover the answers that may have been hidden or kept from you, and to gain greater clarity on what you really have to deal with right now, right where you are.
This is a good time for mental activities, taking care of household and work-related business, establishing workable routines, and taking care of details.

The Moon enters Libra on Monday, May 20, 2013,  at 1:08 PM EDT/10:08 PDT. The Libra Moon transit lasts until May 22, and then by late Friday evening PDT/early Saturday morning EDT, waxes to her fullness at 4/8 Sagittarius opposing the Sun at 4/8 Taurus in a full lunar eclipse. This eclipse will have a potent impact on those with personal planets and aspect points between 29-30 degrees of fixed signs including Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius, and those whose personal planets and aspect points are between 0-9 degrees of mutable signs including Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces. For others, notice where these aspects are in your chart/life, and observe the kind of impact this transit may have for you.

The Moon’s transit through Libra and Scorpio  for the rest of the week will highlight those areas where we are working to unite the opposites in our lives.  Through Libra, the Moon’s journey triggers our emotional need to seek balance, live in harmony, create beauty, and reconcile itself with the pull of Taurus.  As the Moon transits Scorpio, she triggers a soulful search for meaning, and as the Moon conjuncts both Saturn and the North Node, the Moon sets off a stronger move toward resolving and learning the lessons that Saturn has been moving within. The North Node indicates that news may come of some kind of long-awaited change, or signifies, perhaps, that the time is now to take the next steps.  When the Moon comes into opposition with Uranus in Aries, expect sudden, out-of-the-blue surprises and news.

Aspects and Transits.
Beginning late Sunday night, May 19-20,  Saturn  forms a seisquiquadrate to Jupiter, and Uranus squares Pluto. Whatever we are trying to ‘make’ happen, building, or thinking about expanding, meets with major challenges. We are forced to be more realistic with our plans, projects, dreams, and ventures. Any sense of dissatisfaction, seems stronger under this influence. We may feel more restricted both internally and externally.  The more we can adopt a sense of living mindfully, and accepting the present, the less we will feel trapped, challenged, or under the influence of this energetic aspect. Notice when buried feelings, memories, or desires rise up, and allow for a safe, constructive way of dealing with any strong feelings, urges, or issues.

Some major changes may occur, either in your own perspective and determination, or within the structures, relationships, and dynamics of the world in which you live. When we work on ourselves, as we have been forced to do by the experiences and dynamics acting upon  us over the last year, we know that changing our habits, patterns, and outworn ways of viewing and rationalizing our areas of discord, weakness, or other challenges, is called for. The Sun is moving through the last degree of its passage through Taurus.  We are putting a final touch on whatever has been highlighted during this last month’s transit, and with all that has risen to the surface through the eclipse cycle.

Also on May 20, Venus squares Chiron, activating healing changes around areas of how we view love and how we define and tap into our own sense of self esteem and security.  While Virgo was opposing both Neptune and Chiron during the Moon’s recent transit, things may have come up, arisen from our unconsciousness, or been triggered by something that made us feel more insecure about our ability to love and be loved.  As Venus squares Chiron, we again have the opportunity to use this awakening to help us understand our true nature and the true nature of love and security. Understanding that we have to love ourselves, feel secure in who we are, as we are, and feel connected in some way, to the Divine Source of love....for in that Divine Love we live and move and have our being. Our ego-needs must be balanced out with a greater understanding about who we are on all levels of being.

The Sun enters Gemini late on Monday, May 20. The Sun will stay in Gemini until June 21, 2013. Gemini energy activates a quest for knowledge and diversity. Our curiosity takes off in many directions, and this is yet another reason to spend the last few days of the Virgo Moon cycle getting your life and business in order.  The Gemini Sun increases the desire to communicate more, though not nearly on as deep a level as we may have been seeking more recently.  The Sun in Gemini fosters activity, gatherings,  quests, and a deeper search for knowledge and information. The quest you begin now will open doors to knowledge, study, writing, reading, and art. Whatever journey you begin now leads to a great deal of personal discovery and will capture your attention for some time to come. Emphasis belongs on worthy topics, relationships, directions, and meaningful and ethical behavior and conquests.  As you treat others now, so shall you be treated.  The ethical balance of personal journey needs to be weighed with the commitment you have to those you love and have connections.

Mercury is in Gemini, as is Venus. Communication and knowledge are the keywords for Mercury in Gemini. A cycle of seeking, a quest for knowledge, and  a desire for understanding through experience, learning, and communication, is marked by the cycle that Gemini ushers in. Mercury allows for both writing and speaking with clarity and eloquence.  Real pleasure comes from the intellectual interaction and involvement in seeking greater meaning now brings. Our focus is on communication in and about relationships, and using technology to heighten our experiences of connection and communication.

Mars remains in Taurus, pushing us to use our energy to create what is lasting and of great value. Mars in Taurus continues to temper and ground the fiery energy of Mars now. We have the ability to channel, direct, and maintain a great deal of focus on whatever we are now creating, building, or growing.

The Full Moon Lunar Eclipse occurs with the Moon in Sagittarius 4/8 and the Sun in Gemini, 4/8.  Full Moons are always in opposition to the Sun, highlighting the polarities in our lives.  The opposition of Gemini/Sagittarius calls attention to what we need, desire, and feel disconnected from in our lives. Determined by what areas of your life/chart these two signs rule, this Full Moon and Lunar Eclipse focuses on the mental aspects of our minds and intellect.  Gemini represents the logical, intellectual, and analytical facets of our thinking.  Sagittarius represents the intuitive, imaginative, and the more spiritual depths of our thinking. We are in search of deeper meaning while needing to be conscious and aware of the physical manifestation, the details, the functional reality of our lives.  Living in either end of the spectrum to the exclusion of the other, is harmful and delusional.  We need to be aware of both the practical reality of our lives (as the Virgo Moon highlights) and the intuitive and emotional reality of our spiritual essence and being. The Lunar eclipse calls on us to live in harmony; the process of seeking balance as we live our lives in each moment.

Our experiences, the events happening around us, our relationships, and our feelings, emotions, desires, memories, and spiritual needs all call for attention and expression. Whatever practices help us express ourselves, communicate, and live out our true being need to be cultivated in order for us to walk on the path of harmony.

We are brought to the brink through a crisis of some type that rocks our sense of identity, shakes up our idea of what relationships should or can be, or brings us to deeper and raw awareness of lack and disconn

We need to express our feelings, in a healthy manner so as to avoid either turning those emotions inward on ourselves or projecting them out onto others around us. The chronic things, those things that keep recurring regardless of who we’re with or what we’re doing. Physical ailments brought on by repression, suppression, deep hurts, high expectations, chronic and traumatic stress are in need of tending to now. Anxiety and chronic stress and exhaustion, all are manifestations of our need to come into greater balance again.

Relationships of all kinds may be reach a crisis point at this time. The third of seven exact squares between Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn, occurs on Monday, May 20. Uranus represents that part of us that seeks our independence and autonomy, and Pluto is the archetype for power and transformation.  Pluto seeks power; Uranus seeks freedom. Much of how the Uranus-Pluto square cycle operates is in the larger scheme of things. It is playing itself out on the financial markets, in the fields of science and technology, and the repercussions affect us individually and within our families and communities.  When corporate and institutional power is sought at the expense of those they serve, the result is the widespread abuse of power and the lack of institutional conscience that acts abruptly to protect its own interests. It’s a bit like Frankenstein’s monster gone mad.  Sudden, chaotic disruptions and selfish abuses of power are possible. However the outer planets slow-moving and long-lasting movements affect society as a whole and us individually, we are required to connect to our inner truth and center as we navigate the choppy waters of the transformative processes.

The Uranus/Pluto square activates a time of testing, and continues to focus our attention on those areas of ourselves and our lives where we need to seek and be receptive to Divine guidance and a deep sense of inner truth and serenity. Challenges are brought up to be dealt with during this time. The challenge may be a crisis of consciousness or a crisis in some area of our lives (health, finances, relationships, identity, direction, purpose, role).  When we view a crisis or challenge as an opportunity to learn and grow, we are better able to use the energy from this time to  deal with whatever arises or whatever has been in the process of transforming in you and in your life. Relationships of all kinds are dynamic and are undergoing dramatic changes now. Our ability to tap into our intuition, to be receptive to the messages of the psyche, our dreams, and the movement within our lives, is heightened now. As is the case with our ongoing transformation as indicated by the Great Transformer, Pluto in Capricorn, the earth beneath our feet is shifting all the time, but now we are more aware than ever of the tenuous nature of life.

We are feeling the urges to live fully, claim our power and use it to express ourselves freely and creatively.  When we fail to understand the nature of change and its dynamic force to move us into action and out of complacency, we fail to appreciate the gifts that are before us to use to help us through the transformations, transitions, and changes we need to make in ourselves, with our relationships, and in our perceptions of what our purpose and direction is.  It’s important to listen to and respond to the insight, signs, Divine guidance, and movement taking place in and around us now.  Using your spiritual practices (meditation, prayer, discernment), allow yourself to be open and receptive to insight and intuitive knowledge that can support you. Notice any area of your life where you are feeling a particular lack or longing, and be open and receptive to understand what that is calling up in you. Be aware of how what you seem to lack can be an opening or reveal a deeper calling than what you may have been focusing on or holding onto.

The Full Moon and Lunar eclipse of May 25, is the last in the Gemini/Sagittarius series which began in December, 2010. Think back to what issues began arising then, and what has been happening over the last two and a half years, to get an indication (if by now you need one) to see where the eclipse has been energizing and calling you to change. This lunar eclipse and full moon occurs at the same time Saturn in Scorpio and Neptune in Pisces are in a trine alignment. Saturn in Scorpio deepens our intuitive awareness and our soul-searching reveals our hidden intentions and motivations. Neptune in Pisces is awakening us to that which has perhaps been dormant or tamped down in our subconscious or blocked by our analytical or rational mind, in favor of that which we needed to fit into roles, achieve goals, or maintain the status quo within relationships, jobs, lifestyles, or traditions that no longer work or are in need of deepening, altering, and transformation.  As Neptune awakens us to the realm of endless possibilities and hidden meaning, Saturn in Scorpio is awakening us to the areas within ourselves that require awareness, growth, and movement into concrete action.  When inner knowledge begins to arise, we need time and perspective to discern what the meaning is. The danger for some when this aspect coincides with the Lunar eclipse and the Full Moon in Sagittarius (fire) as the Sun is in the early degrees of Gemini (air), is we have a powder keg of elements and energy that bring forward a thunderous explosion of ideas, feelings, visions, possibilities, insight, intuition, dreams, and issues related to the heart of who we are. Those who have planets, aspects and transits within 0-9 degrees of Saturn (Scorpio, Gemini, Taurus) may feel some stress in whatever area of your life Saturn is transiting and aspecting. Those who have planets, aspects (including oppositions), and transits within 0-9 degrees of Uranus in Aries (Aries, Libra) may experience some stress.

From what I hear from any number of people, this last few weeks has been bringing issues to the forefront and has been resulting in actions and crises requiring response and resulting in reactions, both of which are still creating stormy seas for some.  The only way to ride out the storm, is to find that calm within so that whatever arises, you are able to maintain an even keel, a cool head, and an open heart to accept that whatever is emerging, you are capable of riding out the storm and of making any adjustments to your life, perspective, and desires that is necessary.  Again, difficult or disruptive circumstances in our lives, are the norm. We are part of a dynamic Universe that is always growing, always in motion, and always changing. As we are part of that Universe, Divine Creation, we too grow, move, and change. What we can do is deepen our awareness of how we are connected to the Divine Creation, and move with intention, mindfulness, and purpose to create more peace within, greater compassion with those around us, as we develop a more harmonious way to walk together under the light of the Full Flower Moon (also called Full Corn Planting Moon, Milk Moon).  Enjoy the energy of this powerful and beautiful week.

The Sun in Gemini quickens the pace and lifts our thoughts onto a higher plane. We are beginning to feel lighter and less constricted. Next week I will write more about the Sun in Gemini. For now, feel it lift you  up, watch the subtle changes that occur as the Sun moves into the air sign Gemini...the archetype for uniting the polarities.  We can live as if we are constantly trying to walk forward and backward at the same time, or we can see that time is really a cyclic and spiral path that has us meeting parts of ourselves, our past, our present, our future, again and again as we deepen, growth, and move further into our soul’s journey.  This article covers some most of the major transits, although some weeks are more active than others. I would suggest reading several different reputable and knowledgable astrologers to get different perspectives and focus on  this week's astrological activities.  Emily Trinkaus, the Mountain Astrologer, and Susan Miller all present distinctly different and interesting perspectives.

Gifts and Treasures of the Taurus New Moon, Solar Eclipse May 9, 2013

The New Moon in Taurus, Solar Eclipse, peaks Thursday,  May 9, 2013 at 5:29 PDT. A New Moon combined with a Solar eclipse, the 2nd in a current eclipse cycle, signals the unfolding of a new path before us. The Sun and Moon both in the earth sign of Taurus, invites us to sink into the beauty of the life within and around us.

In Sanskrit, the words, Aham Prema, a seed meditation meaning, I am Love, reflects the energy of this period of time. We feel grounded within our inner and outer being, and feel drawn to enjoy the beauty, pleasures, gifts, and treasures that are abundant in our lives right where we are.  For those who have actively been moving deeper into a sense of self awareness, who have been listening and receptive for the Divine invitation to receive, express, and honor the gifts of spirit, now is the time to open our eyes to see what is right before us.  What are the realities of who you are right now? What is going on right where you are? What dreams have you watched come true already, and what are you drawn to do, be, experience, change, or create?

Observe with body, mind, spirit, emotions, and allow your senses, the elements,  your surroundings and your relationships to reveal, unfold, and speak to you of life renewed, reborn, or regenerated. Whatever it is you have been waiting to do or be or experience, make realistic plans now, and map out the steps you need to take to fulfill your dreams. We have been going through the process of letting go and shedding the skin of the past, of outworn roles, patterns of behavior, or expectations, and now arrive at the point of departure for a new leg of our journey. Reflect on what has been eliminated from your life/experience, and allow yourself to feel the energy inherent in the new spaces and openness created by whatever losses, alterations, or releasing you have recently experienced.

Taurus rules matters related to 2nd house issues and energies. The house/area or our lives that relates to how we have developed our sense of personal value, esteem, resources and possessions, desire for security and safety, and our overall sense of how we have come to value who we are, what we are worth, and how we connect, attach, and experience that values in our physical and financial expressions.  The Taurus archetype symbolizes how we shape and experience beauty, harmony, order, and all pragmatic expressions of love in all areas of our lives. Depending where Taurus falls in your chart/life, this is the area of your life right now that is feeling the full measure of the Stellia of planets, the Sun and the Moon in Taurus.

Notice where your sense of self esteem and personal self worth seems to be caught up in decisions, changes, and choices you have been making or wanting to make recently.  Where are the areas of crisis or transformation in your life, and you are probably going to find some connection with this New Moon and the Stellia in Taurus.

Understanding the houses/areas of life.

Looking at each of the 12 areas of life represented in a life as represented on the horoscope, observe the types of energy, activities, or expressions may be experienced by different houses.

Houses of Action. The four angular, fire house--1, 4, 7, 10 --express how we take and view action.

Houses of Security.  The four succedent houses-- 2, 5, 8, 1--express our individual desires, areas where we feel a need for control, and how we synthesize our needs, wants, and desires in different areas of life.  The keyword for the succedent houses is security.

Houses of Learning.  The four cadent houses--3, 6, 9, 12--represent the way we take in and process information.  The 3rd house represents our early upbringing and how we learned who we are, how we learned to communicate, and how we communicate in our immediate environment. The 6th house represents learning through doing and how what we do affects our health and sense of well being.  The 9th house represents who and what inspires us to learn, and the 12th house represents our innate gifts of intuition, and the wealth of genetic, divine, and psychological material that we have access to through the unconsious, subconscious and Collective Consciousness.

The Elements, as represented in our charts by fire, earth, air, and water, also give us a clue to how we take in information, process it, put energy into action, and discover ways to connect and find emotional, spiritual, psychological, and physical fulfillment.

Looking at your chart, find which areas of your life are represented by Fire.

Identity. Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius are the three fire signs representing how you express yourself based on your true identity. The fire signs represent how you take action. On a deeper level, they represent how you view life, and represent your perspective based on your true Identity.  Houses representing self actualization, expression, self worth, and confidence.

Wealth/Treasures: Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn are the three earth signs representing how you value yourself, your relationships, your material and spiritual gifts, and how you satisfy your basic physical and material needs. The areas of your life where you find the earth signs, signal those aspects of life where you find your greatest mode of expression, sense of security and purpose, and ways of finding connection, purpose, and meaning.

Relationships: Aquarius, Gemini, and Libra are the three air signs representing connections and relationships.  Making connections with people, ideas, and the search and adventure of exploring and sharing ideas, concepts, and an understanding of intellectual  ideas.

Spirit and Soul: Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces are the three water signs representing the instinctual, spiritual, subconscious and unconsciousness. Experiencing through the deep yearnings, desires, memories, reflections, and subconscious and unconsciousness, water signs stimulate the impulses to learn from the past, experience through an emotional knowledge, or prescient understanding.  These are the area of your life where your instinctual, intuitive, and deeper desires express through insight and a deep sense of knowing. These houses/parts of your life help define your emotional identity, the way you use your spiritual and soul callings to release whatever is holding you back on your spiritual journey.

This Solar Eclipse and New Moon in Taurus affect our ability to appreciate, experience, utilize, and learn to master the gifts of our physical experience. As spiritual beings, we sometimes fall into the trap of thinking that our mind and body are separate and apart from our spiritual essence and identity. Nothing could be further from the truth. Our gifts as incarnated/physical beings, is that we have the opportunity and special experience of being able to live with a sense of oneness as both physically and spiritually whole. To experience the essence of being human as we also treasure the spiritual essence of who we are, is what spiritual traditions and religious rites and practices seek. The gifts are within us and our lives, just as they are, are full of opportunities for us to discover, develop, and express the best of who we are in service and respect for the best of who and what others bring to the table of life.

Regardless of the seeming circumstances we imagine ourselves to be in, we have the opportunity to begin anew, to redirect our energy, thoughts, actions, and vision to better express our Divine essence and to more clearly use our gifts, talents, and precious life. The energy of this particular time has the capacity to help us strengthen our sense of being safe and secure in the reality of who we are, where we are, and what our lives are destined for.  It is a time to connect to that which we value most, in ourselves and in others, and to set our intentions, align our focus, and to remove anything that is not truly related to our true security. We do not derive our security from outside ourselves: relationships, roles, wealth, activity, approval or disapproval of others. We derive our sense of security and well being from within and with our connection with the Divine Truth that is reflected in our being. Time to reevaluate what is truly best for us, and what is either feeding our ego needs, being driven by our fear of who we are, or what is simply an attempt to escape the reality of our lives as we have created our truth up to this point. We do not leave behind any part of what we have been a part of. We do meet the same situations through relationships, new roles, new choices, when we have failed to see that the truth of our lack of fulfillment or acceptance of ourselves is really about our lack of self acceptance.  We, as we are right now, will travel forward and be part of any relationship or new experience in the future. Time to really take a look at what it is that may threaten your sense of identity, security, sense, gifts and treasures, or spiritual and emotional truth and gifts. How are you blocking your own good? How are you projecting your insecurity, lack of self confidence, sense of failure or feeling trapped, onto someone you chose or some situation that reflects your own discomfort?  The shadow parts of ourselves are, in many ways, no longer hidden at this time. We see ourselves and others in the light of a true awareness, and we are in the center of our own vision, yet we are not the Center itself.  The Divine extends beyond the boundaries or our minds or souls, and we reflect the untold, unfinished story that we came here to tell and live out.

What is the story you are telling of yourself and the life you have been living? How have you missed the gifts and glory of the life you have and the choices you are free to make? How can being more mindful and present during this New Moon and  Solar Eclipse time, shed light on where you are and not so much where you are going, but how you are living and feeling about yourself in the process. How we treat others and make decisions, is often a direct misdirection of energy and thoughts we are feeling towards ourselves. Spend some time learning to appreciate who you are, recognizing your own gifts, abilities, and all the assets already at hand. Deal with whatever is at hand, and see the lessons in the experience, gain strength from learning how to appreciate your ability to honor yourself and others.  Take care of whatever it is that blocks your goodness.  Look for areas where you have hidden things away, failed to handle, overlooked with some intention, or missed acknowledging.  Finish something so you feel a sense of completion. Take care of business so you show yourself you are capable of handling it. Recognize what you may have not wanted to see, and let go of the need to create crisis, complexity, or ‘mountains out of mole hills’ where and when there is no need.

Get outside and walk in the beauty of the season. Embrace yourself with a recognition that you are an expression of the sacred and Divine. You are worthy, safe, capable, and deserving of living and appreciating the gift of life you have before you.  Enjoy the beauty of your life and the recognition of what treasures lay before you.
