Full Moon in Capricorn: The Time for Healing is Now

In case it’s not already apparent to anyone, the energy of this rising Full Moon at 27 degrees of Capricorn, is not your gentle, light-hearted energy building up. On July 19, 2016 the Capricorn Full Moon in the third decan of Capricorn indicates ambition, power conflicts, and highly divisive emotional ties and relationships---many of which are coming unraveled or blowing up right and left. This Full Moon forms a trine with Mars in Virgo and squares Ceres as it sits in conjunction with the fixed star Beta Indus.

Mars, the planet of action, war, violence, and overt ambition, triggers a variety of subtle and not-so-subtle on the part of those in authority and power. The positive side is good leaders can make decisions that are popular with those they lead or rule; the negative side is there is an element of ruthlessness and power-grabbing going on. As I write this column on July 15, there is a coup d’tat under way in Turkey. Whether or not that will be successful or will result in positive changes, depends on how those in power use their authority and respond and react to volatile and changing conditions.
Much of the dissent and upheaval that have resulted in a series of violent, explosive, and dangerous episodes, is uncovering a deep level of hidden animosity, manipulation, and ulterior motives, especially on the part of those who are pulling the strings in their advisory positions. Caution is needed as new leaders are being chosen, and whatever can be done to avoid supporting domineering and bullying demagoguery is needed.
Who holds the power and authority, and how is that authority being used to influence and mislead through the use of media and distraction? Much of what is happening during this period reflects the rise of unquestioning loyalty to dangerous powers.
This Full Moon in Capricorn (the same house that Pluto has been bringing about long-term transformation) highlights the abuse of power and the manipulation and distortion of information to whip up those who do not question, into a frenzy of energy that lacks no center, no ethical boundaries, nor a realistic view of what is possible and what is not. Good leaders will have to be very discerning at this time as to what kind of advice they take and what decisions they choose. Ultimately, the burden will be on the leaders; the advisors remain out of the light. Be wary of what kind of guidance and advice you take. Choose your counsel wisely. Avoid extremes of all types.
The Full Moon in Capricorn also forms a sextile to Mars in Scorpio--Earth and Water mixing. This combination of the Moon and Mars in this  passionate aspect demands that feelings and desires be expressed physically, sexually, and through extremes of both emotional and outward expression. And the acting out of this volatile energy comes from a deep-seated, hidden, and shadowy unconscious side of those who are unhealed.
Anger can be an issue at this time, as it will be difficult to contain or control feelings, passions, and demands. Quick tempered or out-of-control outbursts and acting out, create a very volatile and dangerous time for those who are in the way of those who are out of control. Notice the shadow aspects of your own personality...how they seem to rise up at this time, and then be wary of letting yourself act out of the unconscious, unhealed parts of yourself. Notice in the world around you and with those you come into contact with, who is also likely to burst into a full-scale temper tantrum---unaware and unconscious spewing based on ignorance and a need to be right and in control.
At its worst this is a giant baby bully having a temper tantrum--completely out of control and unaware of how much harm it can cause. To a lesser degree, it signals the need to avoid being around those who have issues with anger and who insist on having their own way despite what anyone else says. In its mildest form this triggers tempermental outbursts; at its worse, something far much worse, akin to what we see manifesting throughout the world right now. Out-of-controlled anger, fear, and hate acting out with no regard for anyone but immediate needs, avarice, and power.
The Sun at 27 degrees of Cancer (in the Leo decan) trines Mars in Scorpio, and this can help ease some of the edgy, outrageous, anger and power grabs. In fact this aspect can bring our more courageous, valiant, daring energy to help intervene and protect against the raging bulls who seem so out-of-control and likely to create more panic and crises than they can ever solve. The Trine between the Sun and Mars highlights a more public voice, one that is compassionate, loving, kind, and altruistic, rather than the biting, razor-edged face and voice of a dictatorial element that can only bring damage and cause greater harm.
What is needed is healing, from the inside out. And a real dose of self-awareness and some cold water in the face kind of reality checks for those whose lack of sound thinking and a solid underpinning for their philosophical or religious base. All will be forced to face what is truly exposed and demagogues will fall, one way or another.
Ceres is just flaming out of her transit through Aries, and enters Taurus on July 17. This qwells the fires a bit, and brings Ceres into aspect with Chiron, the Wounded Healer in Pisces. This will act as a nurturing, mothering influence, helping us to find a greater sense of security and peace within. With Ceres in aspect to Chiron,  we are compelled to seek a greater sense of peace and security, to foster more compassion, to take care of pragmatic and practical issues, and to create a more comfortable and safe home.
Mars and Chiron are trine one another, and are both part of the ongoing Grand Trine in Water. This Grand Trine is at its peak as of July 27 and into the energy of the Full Moon on the 19ths. We feel the urge and need to build bridges, to work to heal the fissures that keep us from resolving past issues and building new pathways forward. The fissures that are splitting our personal and collective lives, and gaping holes that now need to be repaired and healed.
Now is the time to begin anew, this process of putting the concern of our health and well being ahead of divisive and earth-shattering pain and demands. Time to wake up to the reality that we only destroy one another by insisting we stay lost in our own woundedness. Those who fail to heal, who fail to take whatever steps are needed to mend fences, heal wounds, and start renewing body, mind, and spirit are destined to sink deeper into the old scars and ignorance that keep them trapped in dead cycles.
The Capricorn Moon squares Ceres is an aspect that bids us help in the healing process, starting with ourselves. It also cautions us to avoid taking the credit and assuming we are the power---the only one/ones who can solve a problem or bring about healing. We are all in this together. We each have enough to do to heal our own woundedness. We are part of the healing process, not the nexus. Our support and cause comes from the Creator and from our working together with mutual respect and support.
The Sun in the late degrees of Cancer and Ceres in the early degrees of Taurus will form a square aspect at the Full Moon. This gives us a sense that we can overcome the adversity that faces us both individually and collectively. We may feel renewed and inspired to do more, well beyond the immediate time, to help in the healing process. Another possibility may be to feel incapable of overcoming, and in fact feeling less able to handle difficulties and obstacles. This could lead to giving away what power and authority you have to someone you feel is better equipped to do what you feel no longer able to do. When we lose our ability to tap into our spiritual connections, whatever they be and however they help us find meaning and purpose, we can slip into the throes of self pity, weakness, and abdicating our power. Notice if you are feeling downtrodden, and take some time to rest, reassess (count your blessings), and review what all you have achieved, taken care of, and overcome. Don’t sell yourself short. Renew and refresh yourself, and ease up on pushing yourself past your limits. Receive energy and inspiration now. That’s enough and necessary.
In your own chart/life, look to see where the Full Moon in Capricorn and the

Sun in Cancer reside, and any other area of your life/chart where aspects hit strongly at this Full

Moon. Notice what you personally are being called to be aware of and how you might best use the

energy of this very powerful and volatile time to seek inner healing as well as healing from the

woundedness that may be affecting your life and those around you.

Where the polarity between Cancer and Capricorn resides in your chart, this is where you need to bring unity to the diverse and divisive nature within you. It is also where you can best help heal the collective. By healing within, we grow and learn how to better take our place responsibly in how we use our power and authority, and how we allow others to usurp or compromise us. Keep that inner focus and strive for peaceful ways to remain calm, turn from despair, and seek ways to build bridges where you can. Blessing to you all. We are each needed now.

The Birthing New Moon in Cancer

Afterglow                                                                                                                    Catherine Al-Meten Meyers
"Dare alla Luce" (To give to the light; to give birth.)
July’s New Moon in Cancer peaks at 4:01 A.M. PDT. The New Moon in Cancer at 12/14 degrees sits squarely in the middle decan of Cancer, enhancing the effect of this powerful alignment of the Moon, the Sun, Venus, Mercury, and Sirius (the Dog Star). Cancer is the archetype of the Great Mother, nurturer, birther, caregiver. The Cancer New Moon is a time of seeding new life through changes, though the new beginnings are done with some uncertainty and with a sense of emotional vulnerability. The Great Mother is the container of all growth both physical and spiritual. Cancer is also the ruler of our emotional foundations. Wherever Cancer reigns in our lives is where we find ourselves most vulnerable, protective, and in some cases, withdrawn.

Cancer has  a tendency to make us cling to whatever we know and are familiar with even when all signs point to the need to change. Wherever Cancer rules in your life is the area where you may be most protective and afraid. This New Moon and all that is going on with it, is a time when you will be stirred to do two things. First, remember who you really are. And second, examine how you are using your gifts, power, and energy, and determine what patterns are holding you back and which ones are helping you embrace your emotional truth as you make choices for growth that enhance your life.

The New Moon in Cancer aligns with Sirius, the Dog Star ( fixed star). This  triggers a square to Saturn in Sagittarius and Neptune in Pisces. When the Moon was last in Gemini, it triggered the Grand Cross, and this New Moon in Cancer now sets off a period of karmic realignment. What needs to change, will change. In astrological terms, when a square occurs, a crisis  of some type is triggered to push whatever change is needed. A quincunx signals some kind of adjustment is needed, and a trine indicates a resolution can be reached. Oppositions indicate that two diametrically conflicting issues need to come to some type of resolution. All these aspects happen regularly, however when the New Moon sets something off, it is a strong indication that a major change is underway or needed.

This New Moon in Cancer is a quirky, eccentric, and somewhat magical wild woman kind of phase.  Lunar energy evokes the emotional vulnerability that is necessary to stimulate real change and creativity. Standing in our own truth, stepping out into the unknown despite our fears and anxiety, and claiming our place and power in whatever we choose to do, is crucial at this time. If we give up, give away our power, or simply lay down our dreams, we will lose the life force that is vital for our survival, growth, and development, not to mention happiness and fulfillment. This New Moon in Cancer enters our lives to demand that we expect the unexpected, and steer ourselves away from conventional wisdom to unusual and out-of-the-box kinds of answers, solutions, and changes.

Cancer stirs up our need for safety, security, and a sense of boundaries and home. It also finds many of us clinging to dear life to outworn and ineffective patterns of belief and behavior. The Sun is also in Cancer, and it forms a quincunx to Saturn, the Great Teacher. This is a serious karmic aspect where we will find answers and inspiration coming from some pretty odd and out of the way places and sources.  Again, this New Moon with the Sun and Moon both in Cancer is telling us nothing is business as usual. Solutions come from outside the usual places, and with Saturn in fiery Sagittarius, what is going on beneath the surface may be either stirring in the unconscious and/or appearing as some form of underhanded or deceitful actions.

The Sun and the Moon are both conjunct Mercury, and this is considered a highly volatile and combustible aspect. What has been suppressed, withheld, or hidden is now flushed out. There is an element of the Trickster to this aspect, and so we can use the power of our thoughts and words to create some magical and surprising last-minute answers to perplexing problems or supposedly impossible situations. This New Moon in Cancer and all the powerful allies help us conjure up ideas, inspiration, and a real sense of knowing what we really long for and desire. Now is the time to be completely truthful with ourselves, and allow ourselves, as we really are, to be who we are and to claim be receptive to allowing ourselves to ask for what we want. When we hem and haw and fail to be truthful about what we need and want, we only serve to hinder our progress. Get out of your own way, and allow yourself to feel the alignment with the Divine Principles that guide, guard, and reveal Truth in our lives.

The New Moon in Cancer conjunct Mercury may make us feel a bit clingy, nostalgic, and wishy washy. It may also remind us of what has made us happy and fulfilled in the past. Remember though, the past is to remind us of what we can achieve, decide, do, and comprehend; it is not to be relived. Use your memories and knowledge to move forward, to conquer new territory in your journey.

Jupiter, the North Node, Saturn, and Mercury are all in mutable signs, meaning that there is an element of flexibility, indecision, or confusion attached to anything related to the issues they trigger in your life and the collective lives of all. This may make it somewhat difficult to follow through or even get down to business. Just notice this, and note which areas of your life this seems to affect. It won’t last forever, but while these planets and the North Node are mutable, it means we also have more choice. Use your power to choose wisely.

The expression, ‘thoughts are things’ is true now more than ever. With this New Moon in Cancer and all the planetary alignments and aspects, it is indeed a magical time. We can use our energy, ideas, dreams, plans, prayers, and all forms of communication to build a beautiful home for ourselves. We can envision and create beautiful domestic settings as well as compassionate and loving ways of interacting with one another as a whole community. Because the Sun is also conjunct Mercury, we also need to note that the fusion of ego and mind can be a dangerous and destructive aspect. When we allow our ego needs to dictate and overrule or overwhelm sound intellectual thought and decision making, we can run into trouble with both compromise and clear communication.  Some may go to absurd extremes to prove their own egocentric point in an effort to rebel against society’s conventions. This can do more harm than good. If we muddy the waters by creating bigger problems or by confusing already complex issues, we miss the point and waste the energy of this essential time. Avoid pushing your point-of-view on anyone.

The New Moon conjunct Sirius (the Dog Star) indicates success in business and contact with influential friends. It can also set off temper tantrums.  In mythology, Sirius is the goddess Isis, beloved wife of Osiris). The Dog Star and the Goddess Isis represents resurrection, rebirth. She breathes life into what had been dead. When the Nile River flooded in ancient times, it was thought that the Goddess had breathed life into the land and the people. This is a sign that we are in need of nurturing and being nurtured. We need to take good care of ourselves, and avoid overdoing with anything that would be harmful to our bodies, minds, or souls. These are the dry days when things are bursting into bloom, when passions are heating up, and when emotions are as well. Sirius appearing in the night sky symbolizes the start to the dog days of summer, a time for healing to take place.

The Moon in Cancer trining Neptune in Pisces signals an emotional cooling off period. When Neptune is triggered by a square as it is with Saturn, it heats up things. The Moon helps us cool off and take a much-needed rest. There will be an almost make believe feeling to this New Moon time. It is going to be at least as strong as some of the most volatile full moons. Art released (or created) at this time, will receive great notice. We will be feeling things very deeply, and we will sense the very tangible nature of our emotions. We will feel more connected and part of our surroundings, and of course it’s a wonderful time to be out in the natural world enjoying the beauty and richness of the elements. As the Sun in Cancer trine Neptune can make us more susceptible to drugs and alcohol and other forms of escapism, exercise caution.

A very emotional and vulnerable time, we need to remain well grounded. Be with people you trust and honor that which is tried and true--what always meets you where you really are. It’s a wonderful time for some rich spiritual growth and development. The Moon and Sun will oppose Pluto, the Great Transformer. This signals some strange emotions, some odd empathic experiences, and a great deal of sensitivity. Dreams can be intense and lovely. It is a heart-focused time, so make sure whatever you are spending your time doing is something that includes connecting with and serving others in some way. For some the Pluto opposition can also stir up painful, raw memories, or trigger some ugly confrontations. You may have to face some uncomfortable truths. Sometimes we want to ignore that or bury them, hoping against hope things will change. It’s best to face what is, so you can grow and find true happiness within and with others. Now is the time, at this New Moon to decide whether it is best to perpetrate a cycle or break it. The choice is up to you.

The stellium of planets in Cancer, the Sun, the Moon, Mercury, and Venus, all signal a time of great romance. Memories will be stirred, again to remind us of what we are capable of feeling but not to make us long to relive them. Something new is on the horizon now. Bring with you only that which helps and uplifts you for what you are now to learn, do, and become. Mars is now stationary direct after its long retrograde cycle. So while it is not rushing full speed ahead yet, you will feel the energy shifting around movement and activities and changes you have longed to make.  This New Moon in Cancer comes at a time of celebration in the U.S., and at a time in the world of great upheaval and hope. People are longing for change, and what we need to understand is that where we can most bring about change is within ourselves. When we fail to bring forth what we are meant to do, be, create, or honor, we fail to grow. Through our growth as both physical and spiritual beings, we can help others better, we can live out our purpose, and we can find deeper fulfillment. The New Moon in Cancer is a time for cherishing and nurturing as well as helping create a more perfect union among all people, everywhere.

At this New Moon in Cancer, do what it is you need to do to give birth to the Light within you.

Solstice Full Moon in Sagittarius: Fuels Passions, Targets Compassion

Full Moon in Sagittarius: Solstice Moon Fuels Passions

This month’s Full Moon at 29/33 degree of Sagittarius lights the torch for the Summer Solstice. The Moon reaches her fullness at 4:02 A.M. PDT the night of June 19. Approximately eleven and a half hours later, the Summer Solstice occurs. This month’s Full Moon--the second in a row--is also in the critical anaretic degree.

When a transit or aspect occurs at the anaretic degree of a sign, in this case the Moon and the Sun are both at 29/33 degrees of their respective signs-Sagittarius/Gemini, it is a crisis-oriented point.  The anaretic degree in these two mutable signs (Sagittarius/Gemini) indicate a point of great sensitivity and potential strength. This couple with some of the other aspects, makes this Full Moon a particularly significant and powerful one.

In the last, critical degree of sign of the Archer, the Moon at 29/33 degrees symbolizes the Dragon Slayer. The arrow that the Archer holds in his bow holds great potential. When aiming our arrows at this time, we are greatly influenced by deep, underlying energy and past experiences. What further makes this moon so powerful is the conjunction the Moon in Sagittarius forms with retrograde Mars. Mars remains in this sign until the end of June. The conjunction at the time of the Full Moon fans the fires that remind us of old injuries, hidden dangers, abuse, domestic violence, and old injuries. With the Moon forming a conjunction with Mars there is a growing sense of danger and if not contact with emotional upheaval at the very least a reminder of old, repressed rage. Our need to express ourselves at this time, may be deeply motivated by unhealed and unexpressed feelings and memories.

Be aware of what has been broken up lately, on the subconscious level of your being, and how life may be coming apart in some places are reminders of older struggles and upset especially related to reliving some old wars. This is especially true for those who have suffered some form of abuse. In home where emotional upheaval was the norm, the patterns that awaken in us now remind us of the past. We want to remember how we have weathered storms of the past, transformed our ways of coping and expressing ourselves, and overcome the old patterns. Using what we have learned about ourselves and our own abilities, this Full Moon allows us the opportunity to engage the inner warrior who aims arrows of compassion, love, and good intention toward fulfilling and uplifting goals.

Whatever was growing at last month’s full moon (in the first degree of Sagittarius) has now been revealed. The anaretic degrees signals a significant event or awakening that cannot be denied. What has come to the forefront, been accomplished, or arisen in the midst of your journey? Something surprising and essential is now making itself apparent. Avoid old, self-sabotaging behavior.

The Sun in the last degree of Gemini also opposes Mars in Sagittarius as the Moon. This calls on us to exercise caution and avoid rash and careless behavior. Use your energy to slay your own dragons before you go about trying to take on the problems of others. This is a time when we are likely to project our own failures, unhappiness, or shortcomings onto others outside ourselves. Whatever conditions or relationships you seem to be focused or obsessed on will reflect some light on what you need to be addressing within yourself. Let the light of this full moon illuminate you on what demons, dragons, and shortcomings need fixing in yourself and your own life. In the biblical sense, take care of that log in your own eye before trying to fix the world or your close friend’s issues.

This aspect, Mars conjunct the Full Moon in the Anaretic degree of Sagittarius, can find us  being more inconsiderate, egotistical, and foolish. Avoid taking unnecessary and stupid risks. Not only do you risk harm yourself, but also you risk the safety, wellbeing, and health of others through careless and inconsiderate actions.

Mercury in 11 degrees of Gemini also forms an opposition to Saturn at 11 degrees of Sagittarius. This signals a growing experience when it comes to all forms of communication. We need to listen to the signals that we’re getting. This applies to both internal and external signals and signs. Internally we get  dreams, inner vision, intuition, hunches, critical thinking, and our own ability to discern what is good for us and what is harmful. Externally, we get all kinds of signals when we listen to what others say, compare that to what they do, and when watch what comes to us and escapes our grasp. There are messages everywhere---now is the time to pay attention to what they mean.

Neptune in Pisces has just begun its retrograde phase. Whatever you’ve been hoping would disappear, whatever problem you have been hoping would magically be solved, you can rejoice now. You will not be able to ignore problems, issues, or traps any longer. Neptune reminds us what needs to be fixed. Neptune makes you wake up to the fact that a dream is just that---to make it come true, you must do something. Start taking steps towards whatever your passions are. Stop whiling away your time and your life wondering when it’s all going to magically fall into place. Do something to make it happen. Neptune’s retrograde journey in Pisces helps you separate fact from fiction.

You can more clearly discern what is a fantasy and what is real. If you are happy living in a dream world where everything will work out at some mystical point in the future, stay the course. If you are truly interested in what is before you, face it, deal with it, and make whatever changes you need to live with what is. Between now and November during this retrograde phase, you will have the time and clarity, the inner vision and the sound understanding to reevaluate your goals and alter your plans as you set your arrows for new, more realistic and feasible goals. Neptune reminds us of what really matters, and we can use this energy to discern for ourselves what matters most as we make plans and clear things up for forward motion.

Neptune awakens us to what really matters--goals, dreams, personal potential, and spirituality. When it is in its retrograde phase, however, it reminds us in no uncertain terms what we need to face and deal with to make our dreams into the reality of our live.
This Full Moon in the very last degree of Sagittarius, fuels the fires within us so that as we cross the threshold of the Summer Solstice (or the Winter Solstice in the South) we will be clearer, more discerning, and potentially more focused on aiming for what is meant for our highest good, our happiness health, and well being, and that of others. Compassion is understanding that we all have pain and sorrow. Compassion is the ability to face our own pain, shortcomings, limitations, and still be empathetic to others. Use this Full Moon energy to face yourself. What do you need to accept, learn from, or rid yourself of in order to live a purposeful and meaningful life? What fears and anxieties are holding you back, blocking your vision, or intruding on your sense of being enough, being whole as you are, or being capable?

As you reach in your quiver to take out an arrow to target the eye of the dragon, what is it you hope to achieve and why? What needs to be released so that you live your life purposely and with compassion for yourself and others? Do what your heart calls you to do and be your best self. Happy Summer Solstice! The time is NOW.

Full Flower Moon: From the Veils into the Fire

Full Flower Moon

Full Flower Moon: From the Veils into the Fire

The Full Moon, Blue Moon, in 1st degree of Sagittarius peaks at her fullness on Saturday, May 21 at 2:14 P.M. PDT.  Kapow! Lights, camera, action! From the depths of Scorpionic energy of shadows, mysteries, and underground energy the Moon bursts forth into the first degree of Sagittarius. What has been shrouded in mystery makes its appearance in sometimes subtle and not so subtle ways. By the second Full Moon in Sagittarius in late June, what first appears now will play out in full.

Full moons are culmination times, and this Full Moon in the earliest degree of the fire sign Sagittarius, is making some powerful aspects—aspects that are setting off what has been hidden away. This has been described by some astrologers clown-like energy. It seems more like a Dark Shadows, Day of the Dead, or Darth Vadar type energy.  What is lurking beneath the surface in shadow form (the unhealed, undeveloped, or the repressed) now aims its energy in pin point precision to make its point. What we believed we understood or had known the truth about, is in fact still a powerful part of our individual and collective journeys. The image of Pandora and her box come to mind.  Ordered by Zeus not to open the box, Pandora defies him, and opens it releasing all the evils into the world. The one redeeming thing about all that was released from Pandora’s box was that Hope remained in the box.

Many ancient myths viewed the process of opening or coming to know or understand as the root of other evils. In modern parlance, “What we don’t know won’t hurt us.”  This however is a fallacy when it comes to understanding who we are and what our place is in the world. We each come into life with talents, gifts, and inherent abilities. What we do with our lives including the gifts and challenges, is determined by the choices we make. At this particular Full Moon in Sagittarius, we get a glimpse of how what is rising to the surface in our lives might be manifesting in our lives.

If we have been seeking the truth of some situation, relationship, challenge, or other area of importance, now is the time when we may have some hard truths revealed to us. If something or someone strikes you as ‘off’, trust your instincts, and take cover. It is not time to play with fire; it is time to recognize how we have been burned in the past and how we might be too near the fire now.

This is a period when individually and collectively, we have been carrying a lot of built up tension. It may have risen up through memories, dreams, or in the shades and shadows of past domestic mine fields that are showing up in our lives once more. Personally, I have been having some pretty archetypal dreams, and have been hearing of others’ who have been having similar types of dreams. Take note of what is appearing back in your life. It might be by way of a dream, or by way of someone who reminds you of someone in the past, or it might come up in your memories or emotional reactions to what’s going on. Simply take note at this time. Remain calm and use whatever centering and quieting practices you can to stay out of the line of fire.

Planetary aspects to the Moon right now are triggering a lot of what is going on. The Moon in Sagittarius is forming a conjunction with fiery Mars in retrograde. The Sun in the early degrees of Gemini opposes Mars in Sagittarius. This is an aspect that can trigger self sabotage, accidents due to pent up emotions and a very combative collective consiousness (in other words, people are ready to burst right now…argumentative and hostile). If you can, avoid participating in anything that might put you in harms way. Whatever you may be working on or searching may now seem like nothing but a struggle. Rather than worrying too much, getting defensive or egotistical, hold onto the center within you.

The Sun in Geminis conjuncts Venus, and both are overpowered by their opposition to the retrograde Mars in Sagittarius. Strain on relationships, tension (sexual and other) indicate the struggle for control and dominance within ourselves and within many relationships, particularly the romantic ones. Repressed memories tend to resurface at this time. Mars in retrograde reminds you to use your head and remember from past mistakes, and struggles, what to avoid and what to do.  Whatever is coming full circle is now highlighted, and by the next Full Moon in June, will become even more evident.

The Full Moon in Sagittarius is shinging light on something that is coming to the surface, being exposed, or being revealed. Sagittarius seeks a union of body, mind, and spirit, and this Full Moon channels the inner light into a graceful stream that you use to seek the truth of who you are and what you need to do or be to fulfill your own life purpose. No one is alone on this journey, so assess your companions and make sure you are doing what you need to do to take good care of yourself. The Gemini-Sagittarius axis calls for mobility, movement and swiftness. We feel propelled forward into action. As this force fills you, remember who you are at the center of your being—-in your soul self.

We each have the freedom to choose, to learn, to ask, and to question. And even though we may believe we know the truth or the whole story, again, the fact remains, the journey is not over. Releasing the urgent need to know or control or to be ‘right’ is crucial at this point. At this point simply notice what is rising up and making itself known to you. What had been shrounded in mystery is beginning to peak out from behind the veil…in flickers and flames of energy that are due to burn away whatever keeps us from seeing and knowing the truth.

Mercury remains in Taurus making communication more grounded than it might be in another sign. Focusing on finding ways to beautify our lives, seek pleasure to ease pain, and to put our energy into creating something of beauty are beneficial forms of communication. What we may not be able to say to another person, can be painted, written about, sung out, or danced out. Use the physical forms of communication to express yourself in creative, artisic, and positive ways rather than trying to fight your way to the front of the line or make your point.

Jupiter in Virgo also brings a kind of grounding gift. Early this morning (Friday, May 20) Jupiter formed a sextile to the Moon in Scorpio. Dreams may have delivered vivid and archetypal messages, or we may have awoken with a deeper sense of something tapping on the doors of our awareness.  Mars also forms a semi-square to Pluto in Capricorn today, again nudging us with a sharp elbow, reminding us of what we need to do to make the changes we seek. And at the same time showing us that we have a ways to go; there are still obstacles in our way and power struggles may be at the root cause of those challenges. Hitting our heads against brick walls has obvious consequences—more headaches and sometimes ten steps backwards.

This Full Moon in Sagittarius with the Sun in the first degree of Gemini may feel overwhelming to many. Some simple steps to handle this type of energy includes taking some simple measures:

  1. Simplify your schedule. Do only what you can do, and recognize your limits. You don’t have to say ‘yes’ to everything.
  2. Make time spent on a task count. Don’t waste time working too long, too hard, or too much.
  3. Eliminate unnecessary, mindless activities. Avoid wasting time, for example, worrying about a task. Either do it or forget about it until it matters. If you take a break, make sure it’s one that regenerates your energy, provides rest, or nourishes you in some way.
  4. Question the assumptions you are living by. For example, answer the questions, What if….”  Ask yourself why you feel you have to _________? Live in the moment and stop keeping yourself trapped.
  5. Give yourself time to relax your mind. That doesn’t mean to stop thinking, it simply means, stop, relax, let go of thoughts about what to do next or what you’re not doing. Be quiet and calm in this moment. Give yourself time to hear yourself think. Meditate, pray, be still.
  6. Get some help. Know who your friends are, and spend time with them. Know who your friends are not, and avoid feeling you have to be friends with anyone who drains the life out of you.
  7. Trust yourself and your own choices and decisions. You know you better than anyone. Remember who you are.

Use the gifts of life that you have, and whatever comes up with the energy of this Full Moon, and begin to channel your energy and life choices with grace and peace. Do what you know is best for you on your path.

Full Moon in Virgo: Bringing the Unconscious to the Surface

Reflections                                                                                                                                 Catherine Al-Meten Meyers

If ever there was a Whackadodle Full Moon in Virgo, this might just be the one. Take the idealistic, imaginative, intuitiveness of Pisces spiritually charged energy and try to bring all those dreams, inspirations, and transcendent ideals into form and function, and you have the February 22 Full Moon in Virgo at 3 degrees opposite the Sun in 3 degrees of Pisces. On top of that, the Sun conjuncts spacey Neptune and Mother-issues Ceres and you have a recipe for a lot of acting out and rather unusual behavior. Besides that, isn't that Moon rising up at night beautiful? Noticing the wild dreams that have already begun in my household, and I can only imagine how this is all bringing up all kinds of interesting memories, reflections, and unconscious material that is working its way to the surface at this time.

February 22, the Full Moon in Virgo at 3/33 degrees at 10:20 A.M
. PST. Virgo brings the spiritual nature of the Pisces Sun into daily life, its faith and inspiration into our daily practices and service, and our creative ideas into form and function. What seeds we planted at the New Moon in Virgo last September, now break through and begin to blossom. With Neptune  in Pisces opposing this Full Moon we have the possibility of ignoring our intuition as we feel compelled to find answers in convoluted logic or needless worry. Use your daily practices to release the tendency to dwell on whatever you have no real control over, or where you are caught up in traps where your energy is stuck. One way of dealing with this aspect to the Full Moon is to get back a ways from any complex or troubling issue, and try to see the bigger picture.

With the Full Moon in the very earliest degrees of Virgo’s first decan, our striving for perfectionism can be slightly less than perfect. That doesn’t mean we won’t strive; it does mean we will likely see how our approach, perspective, or exuberance is flawed or not yet ready for prime time.

With Neptune and Ceres in very close conjunction in Pisces, they act to increase the overall impact of both planets. Neptune’s influence on our ability to see through the veils of illusion, or not, and Ceres’ influence over mind-altering drugs and/or pain killers or any kind of numbing agent, can further muddy the waters when it comes to us knowing how to use whatever earthy energy is opening up new caverns, deeper urges, or energy and information we’re not quite ready to deal with. Use caution in the way you behave, and be careful when using heavy equipment or trying to do difficult, demanding tasks. This energy is not conducive to exacting work. In fact the fly in the ointment may appear in projects or situations that we are spending much or our resources, time, and energy on.  Be wary of going overboard or being taken in by the overwhelming flood of attention demanded by others at this time. It’s easy to get lost in illusions, and we may see some rather peculiar or off-putting behavior during this full moon cycle.  If such red flags don’t show themselves immediately, wait for the whole transit to complete, and it will probably become very clear and apparent.

The Moon in Virgo directly opposes Ceres in Pisces, and that triggers trauma and abandonment issues from earlier times.  We may use more artistic expressions to help us cope with these issues, but we may also find ourselves or those around us trying to numb some pain through an idealized recreation of what they didn’t get earlier in their lives. This is particularly true for anyone whose relationship with their mother was one of indifference. Remember the myth of Ceres and Persephone. Archetypes and myths arise to help explain our human relationships and typical human behaviors and reactions. Look at your relationship, idealized  or otherwise, with your own mother or mother-figures, and notice what is coming up during this Full Moon in Virgo. Where are you still projecting your pain in your search for connection and fulfillment, and how are you learning to heal from within? The healing is an inner process; relationships often distract us from facing some pain or need—in other words, we want to notice where our relationships, past or present, are distracting us from what we need to look more deeply into within ourselves. This goes for all forms of relationships—romantic, family, work, friendships.  Notice where you are feeling aggravated, disturbed, or upset and see what that links to within.

Themes that go with this Full Moon opposing Ceres may reveal issues related to abandonment, abduction, and other forms of loss and unrequited love. Pay attention to the way this appears in art and literature created during this time.

The Moon in Virgo’s opposition to Neptune in Pisces increases the likelihood that we will be acting out of unconscious desires and urges, more so than usual.  We can be easily seduced into feeling a need to be saved or protected by someone or something that promises to be the one and only thing that can help us now. This kind of illusionary feeling, for it comes directly out of our unconscious needs and shadow desires, can be harmful and deceptive. We may trip right into it anyway though.  The feeling of being at one with the Universe is an characteristic of this aspect, and if we are teetering on the edge of our own well being and mental health, this can be a point that causes us to slip over the edge in some way.

The Sun in Pisces is also aspecting both Neptune and Ceres, and will be coming into conjunction with Chiron, the Wounded Healer in a day or so. Both are already moving in that direction, so whatever transpires during the early part of the Full Moon, may make itself known pretty soon afterward when both form conjunctions with Chiron. If by chance our wounds are opening up over the next day or so, the transit with Chiron may give us some indication of how and why we need to work on healing what has been broken open from the past. We do not leave the past behind, any of us, and when we fail to pay attention, it is surely going to come up again and again as we try to form connections and maintain a sense of centeredness within.

And how might this look? The Sun conjunct Neptune often feels like we are merging ourselves and our own sense of ego strength and identity into others or into something that becomes an obsession. In other words, we lose ourselves and forget who we are for the sake of Other. While this can be positive, it can more likely cause us to ignore our own needs and desires for the sake of this seeming merging with Collective Oneness. Losing ourselves to the collective whole is something that may prove to be more harmful than good in the long run. This type of transit with such a powerful surge hitting the unconsciousness, needs to be understood and dealt with with full care and attention to one’s overall well being and balance. Otherwise, it can be a very difficult and damaging time. For what was suffered in the past, made a portion of us ill-equipped to deal with certain types of conditions. Knowing where our own limitations and boundaries are is crucial at this time. Remember who you are.

Issues from the past may find themselves being rekindled in the present. Problems around inheritance, ancestry, familial injuries and woundedness need to be addressed, not ignored or simply forgotten.  In order to function in a healthy manner in any other kind of relationship, we have to understand how we have come to learn and heal from our own past. Otherwise there is a danger of ignoring the wound, carrying them into other experiences as unconscious baggage, and of putting ourselves in danger of deeper injury or confusion.

With the Sun in the early degrees of Pisces (3 degrees on the Full Moon in Virgo), the past is brought into the present, and since Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac, wherever it rules in your own life, is the place where the past is being mourned in order for healing and understanding to release false or confusing images of identity so that fuller healing and individuation can continue growing in our identity development. This is one powerful Full Moon and Sun in Pisces opposition, calling within our lives the merging and unifying of bringing the spirit into direct connection with our dally lives in the areas where these two orbs now shine. What is the polarity that is beginning anew in your life, and calling for the need to become more conscious, awake, and aware of who you are, what your need to heal within, and what it is that is best for your full development as a loving, giving, and creative individual?

New Moon in Aquarius: Turning Point and New Path

On Friday, February 5, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. PST, the planets, Sun, and Moon align at the following degrees in the following signs:

Sun 16/23 Aquarius
Moon 9/58 Capricorn
Mercury 10/53 Capricorn
Venus 15/55 Capricorn
Mars 17/18 Scorpio
Jupiter 21/57 Virgo, retrograde
Saturn 14/30 Sagittarius
Uranus 17/17 Aries
Neptune 8/38 Pisces
Pluto 16/14 Capricorn
Chiron 19/0/58 Pisces
North Node 22/18 Virgo, retrograde

This week opened with what is
An abundance of energy in earth signs, with three planets and the Moon in Capricorn, make today a day for getting things done and being very grounded in practical matters and firm planning. Mars in Scorpio helps us connect intuition, ideas, and energy into creating and producing in order to bring our ideas to life. Jupiter in its retrograde phase finds us being reminded of how much we have to be thankful for, and what we have already achieved, produced, and brought forth. We now spend time connecting to how to use what we have learned to influence the work we are currently engaged in and in formulating our plans for the future.

Neptune and Chiron in Pisces continue to plumb the depths of our subconscious and unconscious realms, bringing insight, ignition, and impulse to ways we are learning, healing, and growing. What we have learned through the wounds we have healed from should have sensitized us to how we fall into traps and impulsive choices and decisions when beginning along new paths.  Neptune and Chiron both square the planets in Capricorn, nudging us with reminders of what traps we need to avoid, and what areas still need to be better understood or acknowledged (in our selves and in our perceptions of others).
The energy alive in the area of transformation in our lives—Capricorn—finds us intimately connected to how our emotional temperment, our ways of communicating (both transmitting and receiving), and our ideals and ideas about what and how to love, are being reshaped and/or reformulated at this time. Pluto’s deeply transformative nature digs deeply into these areas at this time. This also the time of the dark of the moon, just before the new moon, so it is a crucial time for observing what we want to carry forward and what we need to leave behind.

As this week opened, we marked the special turning point days of Candlemas and Imbolic, both symbolic times for cleansing, renewal, and reawakening.

Today, Friday February 5 Venus forms an exact conjunction to Pluto in Capricorn. A passionate time for relationships, partnerships, and fruitful time for friendships. We may be more demanding or have someone make greater demands on us, all a desire to go beneath the surface to the intensity and depth of deeper passions. This aspect is an all or nothing aspect as well. Notice how this energy might be affecting your perceptions and actions.New insights can arise in such areas of our lives where Capricorn rules. Avoid becoming too possessive.

On Saturday, February 6 Venus in Capricorn forms a square to Uranus in Aries. Issues revolving around the tension between freedom and intimacy become more important and are highlighted. Strange and unusual behavior or attractions may momentarily set off some sparks, but are unlikely to have much of a lasting effect. Try to keep things lighthearted and enjoyable, but let things brew slowly and avoid making long-term commitments or promises. Keep your head in the game, and remember again, what you’ve learned about how you miss signals or misread or fail to discern what is going on within you or another person.

Also tomorrow and Sunday (Feb. 6-7) Venus forms a sextile to Mars in Scorpio. Look to the houses where both planets are transiting, and see what is indicating a deepening of personal connections and a sense of feeling at peace and in unison with a mutual type of relationship or choice.  It’s a positive time for finances, creativity, romance, and all forms of social and romantic pleasure.  We feel emotionally satisfied, and see the potential for forming and maintaining more permanent ties and connections.

On Sunday, Feb. 7 and Monday, Feb. 8, the day of the New Moon, Venus forms a healing sextile with Chiron in Pisces. Love heals all wounds if we are open to allowing ourselves to let go of the past and receive what is beginning in our lives now. Notice where you are healing into a greater openness to connecting on a heart-felt level.

Mars in Scorpio forms a quincunx to Uranus in Aries late this week. This aspect calls for adjusting our goals and finding ways to relieve ourselves of any drains on our energy. We may feel a bit restless or impatient, and can use this energy to do whatever it takes to put our lives in balance and order.

The Sun in Aquarius forms a sextile to Uranus in Aries, making us more willing to be open to new circumstances. Our lives are changing, and much seems unfamiliar in some areas. Find ways to get the support you need. Be open to finding creative ways to solve problems and dealing with old issues in new ways. Be flexible, and open to new alternatives and unexpected opportunities to open for you in, especially in the areas where Aquarius’ Sun and Uranus are transiting.

Mercury in Capricorn is trine to Jupiter in Virgo.  Our thoughts are on pragmatic details and thinking involving new ways of cooperating and dealing with ongoing issues. Good news is likely, and perhaps something or someone from the past will bring us news we’ve been waiting for or options offers we hadn’t expected. A short trip, communication (letters and other forms of writing), and paperwork might be in the offing. Consider new ways of looking at old problems or situations. Knocking our heads against the same old walls, will only bring more headaches. Now is the time to change our perspective and be alert to other choices we have either refused to consider or given up on. Finish the application process or fill in the forms, and get the paperwork done so that you can be ready for what is offered. ]

The New Moon in Aquarius occurs at 14:38 (GMT)  on the 8th February 2016 at 19 degrees, in the second decan of Aquarius. This is a very Aquarius New Moon. The cool detachment of Aquarius and/or the area of your life ruled by the Water Bearer, is challenged by the square of the Sun and Moon to Mars. Mars in Scorpio concerns itself with one’s own deepest desires, and Scorpio seeks control over all situations affecting it, and uses fear and/or is controlled by their own fear of being overpowered by anyone or anything that threatens those desires. Mars is supported by sextiles to Neptune in Pisces, the North Node in Virgo (opposite Neptune in Pisces) bringing a strong, passionate, and outspoke expression of needs. The North Node (gateway between the past and the future) marks a turning point time for everyone (the start of the Chinese New Year of the Monkey), and may push some to force their views and needs on others. Watch how you enter this time, and stay alert to how you and others around you use their power and handle their fears.

Notice what is going on within at this time too.  Our own inner struggles may be strongly activated. Which aspects of yourselves are warring with one another? How are you using rationalization, fear, or need to outweigh and disregard your growing need for growth and change? Watch how the old part of you, that part you’ve worked so hard to overcome or grow out of (habits, patterns, perceptions) come up to poke you and disturb or distract you from what is good and healthy. What new seeds are you planting now? What weeds still need to be plucked from your garden? What needs nourishing and tending? You do have a courageous spirit right now, so allow yourself to act with valor in an area, relationship/s, and ways that are mutually responsible, supportive, and affirming. Avoid past mistakes and old outwork alliances. Allow that moving on means feeling emotional about endings, and then let it go.

This New Moon in Aquarius comes at an ideal time to step out into the new you, the new path, or the new role you have chosen to take on. With the Moon sextile its ruler, Uranus (in Aries), ample opportunities now arise to fulfill some of your deepest desires and fondest dreams. Follow up on intuitive hunches, and pay attention to whatever you have sensed through your own abilities to perceive, discern, and know what is right for you.

The lovely Sabian symbol of this New Moon at 19 degrees of Aquarius is that of a large white dove bearing a message. The Dove, a symbol of the peace, the Holy Spirit, and promise, calls you to make peace within yourself, and tune into the visions, intuitive messages, and signs from the Divine and universal energy. Lean toward love, hope, and understanding, and fear not, but trust in the  the gifts of Spirit which inform and protect us. Allow yourself to be infused with the message of Spirit, and allow yourself to see better days ahead. Receive the good news that you are meant to live, love, and thrive.

This week started out with some very interesting turning point times. Candlemas and Imbolic, both traditional times signaling the approach or start of spring in many Northern hemispheric cultures occurred. As we enter the period of the dark of the Moon we reflect on the old year behind us, and prepare for the new year (Chinese New Year coincides with this New Moon) and with new paths and roles opening to us at this time. The New Moon on Monday, February 8, is a time for celebration and new beginnings, and a time when we may find ourselves pleasantly surprised by what is opening up in our lives at this time.
